Problem midi mapping Keystudio 25 to Abletons looper

Howdy folks,

I'm not all that familiar with Midi, so forgive me if there's something obvious that I've missed here...

I want to set up a situation where I can play keyboard lines live and loop them. No problem mapping buttons on the Keystudio to the looper button etc., but it appears that, while midi messages are received by Live, they don't always work. For example, to trigger the loop to record I'll have to press the button I've mapped twice. Both presses will be received by Ableton, but the looper will only engage on the second one.

Just to be random, on occasions the looper will engange first press. Other controls I've mapped have the same issue, sometimes will work first press, more often I'll have to press twice or more often.

Any knobs I've mapped appear to work perfectly.

I have the 'Track' and 'Remote' Midi ports toggled to on.

Incidentally, the Keystudio 25 shows up as a USB O2 in my MBP.

Have tried changing the usb port - no difference.

I'm using a MBP, Live 8.0.5.

If anybody has any ideas as to what this might be I'd be mightily grateful.

Have you mapped the keys to the big all-in-one-button or the 4 small buttons?(rec, play, stop, overdub)

check if the midimessages you are sending are cc's (toggle or momentary)or note on/off messages.

I don't know the Keystudio 25, but with my UC33eI've encountered the need to press buttons twice. In my case the controller was set to send one message on the first press (on) and a different second message on the second press (off). If you change the contoller settings so they send the same midi message both times then Live works as expected. You can check whats happening in the Midi mapping window in live, if the mapping changes when you press repeatedly you can see what the two messages are.

There might be a way to get Live to respond to two different messages as on and off but you would need to ask someone else how to do this as I have never investigated further.

Rabalder - I've mapped one button to the looper big button, one button to undo, one button to clear and one button to stop on the transport bar.

rdevries - I believe they're cc's? 102, 103, 104 & 105 is what comes up on the controller when I investigate. Are some cc's toggle, some momentary? I appear to be able to change the cc on my controller, but they don't seem to be allowing me to change them to anything else (note on/off). I'll dig into the manual and see...

miwray - I thought that might be the problem, found a forum entry on it advising to work around this by entering midi map mode, selecting control to map, pressing button on controller and hold, do not release, turn off midi map mode. But unfortunately no joy. Still have the same trouble.

I didn't try reprogramming from the controller though. But in the midi mapping window it appears that only one message is received when I hit these buttons. The command doesn't change on sequential presses. So it looks to me like it's getting just the one signal, just not acting on it at times.

Does anybody know if sending note messages from the same keyboard would wonky up what I'm trying to do? I'm trying to play the line and control the looper at the same time.

Thanks for your suggestions guys - got that figured out, once I realised I could make the cc's either toggle or momentary. Toggle for some things, momentary for others. Not apparent at all from my controller manual. Now, make some music time...
