IT heads question about hard drives and booting in windows

Post by starving student » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:06 am

having a problem for some reason when my external drive is connected the laptop won't boot, it gets stuck on the welcome screen, but when I unplug the external drive it boots just fine, what kind of issue is this and how to solve.

If you're on a PC, this might help:
Go to your BIOS setup (usually by pressing f2 or del during bootscreen showing up, the screen tells you what key to hit to enter setup)... find your Boot priority settings and remove USB-HDD or anything that points to your external hdd and put your internal HDD in first place (maybe after CD-ROM if you want to install software/OS someday)... after that, go back and save settings.
Et Voilà: PC will reboot and ignore your external hdd during bootup.

EDIT:
If you are facing this problem with Windows only... then tell us more about your specs.

go to bios it will be something like F2 of F8 when the computer starts up. you must make your regular hard drive the fist in the boot sequence.

hopefully that helps
