fader issue with apc40

the first fader on my apc40 won't work in remote mode. If I instead map the ableton fader to the apc40 fader using midi mapping then it works fine.

Is this a configuration error somewhere, or is it possible that the fader actually needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the response Sheluser.

Get this, on further investigation I have found that the fader 1 only fails to work on my current set! If I load up a blank set it works fine. This and the the fact that all other faders work fine imply that it is neither a config error OR a hardware error....Well kind of. (How come I always end up with really obscure issues?)

This leads me to a further question. Is there anyway to edit an ableton file outside of live using a text or hex editor?
