Mac Minimalist? Cool new thing I tried.

Basically the idea is a set of cleanup and stylistic changes to your mac to have a clean space for work. Give it a try as it can really improve your mac aesthetic and your work flow.

I used to have a desktop full of icons but now my dock has my 5 most used applications, my finder has 4 extra folder shortcuts, and I used the guides suggestion for bowtie. A cool little applet to have a pleasing mini itunes player.

Anyway just thought Id like to share my stumble upons when they're useful.

indeed. i'm all for his cleanups. but his reduction to what he needs shows how he doesn't deserve a mac really at all. a simple netbook would have solved all his needs and even that he wouldn't deserve. pc's for the web-generation are really wasted resources

nice tips, i did that already a long time ago, to reduce items in the dock and creating folders in the dock with apps i don't use very often...

and to only keep a very few shortcuts on the desktop, it really helps a good 'workflow' and finding things ultra quick.

yeah, doing the same on windows myself (and in all apps that allow configuration). i want screenspace for the stuff i use, not for anything else.

No but really his list was kindof lame. (Mines not much better though)

one folder for various apps (backup, video, preview, silver keeper, address book, cyberduck, etc.)

one folder for other audio apps (reason, logic7, yamaha digital desks editor, sure workbench for wireless systems, etc. standalone versions of AAS, kontakt, reaktor, D&B array calculator, etc.)

and two more folders one for documents and one for other music / audio related stuff...

plus my downloads folder has a shortcut in the dock.

and that is after major clean up and reduction, well all the apps left (except actually recycle, which i could move into a sub folder) i use regular.
