There you go, Xio. It's the X-Station without the synth. Just what you're looking for. (You never said anything about pricing, btw)

I was firstly thinking of the Korg NanoKey (45 pounds) http://createdigitalmusic.com/2008/06/1 ... ller-pads/
And another audio interface

Xiosynth has a synth.. It actually can load all X-station patches and vise versa. Got it for $180 second hand downtown Chi.stringtapper wrote:There you go, Xio. It's the X-Station without the synth. Just what you're looking for. (You never said anything about pricing, btw)

Even better then. I've always loved my X-Station. It's not the interface I would use for live playing, but on the road it can get the job done.outershpongolia wrote:Xiosynth has a synth.. another option would be the audio2dj from native inst and the nano keys or the akai LPK25
both great quality.

I had an edirol pcr1m for ages. Not bad audio interface and drivers. 8 midi knobs and Weird short stroke keys that take a bit of getting used to. Altogether it was pretty good. Gave it to my brother when I got a new soundcard. He still uses it.
Re: I need a small midi keyboard with audio interface built in?
Does anyone know if any of the devices mentioned above can handle separate stereo channels for cue and main out? I'm looking for an inexpensive interface that can send one stereo out to a PA system and another to my headphones. A midi keyboard and midi controllers would be a nice bonus.
Re: I need a small midi keyboard with audio interface built in?
The thinnest, lightest controller, keyboard, and interface ever made. Sadly, they don't make 'em any more. Edirol PCR-1
@ martin, the M-1 did not have an integrated audio interface. Possibly you meant the PCR-1?

Note that the XioSynth does not have a midi input connector! Also note that the audio input 1 is a XLR connector, not a combi like on the X-Station. So if you want to feed a stereo signal in you need an adapter.
If you can afford it go with the X-Station. It's an awesome machine.

Re: I need a small midi keyboard with audio interface built in?
Both points you just mentioned are why the Xio had to go after a while.. it was pretty inconvenient to run stereo signals with 2 diff cables and also to have to run MIDI thru a laptop then back to USB if you wanted to control the xio with another keyboard/sequencer/etc..darth_fader wrote:Note that the XioSynth does not have a midi input connector! Also consider whether you even need a portable audio interface.the girl next door wrote:Hi,
I need a small midi keyboard with audio interface built in for my Laptop to take around my girlfriends house, any suggestions? he will be pleased.
Using Asio 4 All on the built in soundcards can solve most latency issues on PCs and most Mac laptops have low latency sound cards built-in anyways, and about any soundcard can sound halfway decent if you are just composing and not doing full fledged recording (let your ears be the judge though).
Probably the only reason to get a portable audio interface is if you:
1. Really want to seriously track out multiple inputs/outputs (usually not the case for me when I'm on the road).
2. Would desire a built-in preamp (in that case a midi keyboard/audio interface would save some space) if you need to record vocals.
I'd say if you are just playing softsynths or sampling line level signals, a built-in soundcard with ASIO4ALL (if it works, which on most soundcards it does) would work fine. All you would need is a good set of speaker/headphones and a few cables for connecting line devices.
