thats because the video was assuming that you already knew or did make IAC buses for it. for a MAC you manually make 2 IAC buses (there like midi inputs) and you can call them whatever you want. he called them "2 apc emu to live" I simply called my "apc to live." if you are on a PC you need to use something called midiyoke. hope that helps.

Can someone please help?

I really need to figure out how to find the OSC prefixes i need to be using for a given monome app. The only one i can use right now is molar with the default prefix of '40h'

looking for anyone with apc40/molar/monomulator experience. watched mad tutorials on the subject, got it working, followed the start up instructions, but theres a few issues (also im supernoob to molar)
im just gonna sspit out a bunch of questions, any answer help big....

Q: my drum loops i made to 4 bars in ableton, rendered out to a monome folder, added them to the .cfg file, loaded them into molar and there off time....why and how to fix??
..i also loaded some loopmasters samples which are pretty basic on time beats and they to... off

Q: how exactly to set up prefs?
.. i set up a "to an from" bus in IAC prefs...the apc works but has some glitches
>no outputs on, no syncs on, alll the tracks and remotes on for the runtime, to/from bus, apc, etc.
>>i guess its my lack of understanding the purpose of the track/sync/remote features in the prefs, even though ive read the info-veiws take on it

Q: is there a way to start the monome over to empty default? no samples loaded, nothing set or triggered
.. in first getting it working i triggered things that i dont have any idea about, and cant figure out how to get them off, using the "unofficial instructions" pages in hopes i could gain some ground but ....well

***monomulator wont remember the prefs i set up wen i turn off and restart the computer...?

Q: for mac and the recent versions of molar etc. is there "MonomeSerial", saw that in a vimeo tutorial but dont have it anywhere...??

Q: i take it that theres a newer version of molar since 2 years ago?

ahiyt thats good for now...thanks for any help in advance.... oh yeah running: mac osx10.5.8/live8.0.9/most recent molar, monomulator versions, apcfowty

first of all, go there:

http://post.monome.org/comments.php?Dis ... 238&page=1

And download the pdf files... those have opened a new world to me.

Setting up the cfg file of molar is quite essential to have a smooth experience.
Everything is explained on the unnoficial thread [see the link above]

If you need more details, I can try to help you, considering I use molar for every live session on stage.
The more I use it, the more I understand and the more I love it.

You'll have to make at least 7 or 8 folders [one for each row in molar].
Within those folders you can put your wave files.

My little trick here is to number them in a smart way for molar;
Considering molar on a 64grid like the apc40 or the launchpad, it gonna give you 8 lines + 8 columns.
So with 8 buttons per line, I found simplier to number every file this way:
01,02,...,08
11,12,...,18
21,22,...,28
I always number before the name to order files easily.
with this way, the day I wanna modify some samples in the folder, I know where it will be on molar when I wanna change audio files.
It can really help during live sessions.
Adding to this, try to keep every sample in rows familiar to each others>>>
Record the drum from a piece you've composed, then record bassline, record synth line>>>
Put the drum files within the first row' folder, put the bassline file within the second row' folder, and so forth.
I hope my english was enough understandable

thanks for the info, i have downloaded all those docos and thats how i learned about the vol/effects/etc. parameter controls,
im certain i have a large lack of even knowing WHAT molar does... from those manuals (the unoffish) though i read that it does a meta record function( that i dont understand except:)
similarly you can have an audio track with a sample and rout it to a molar midi channel and then capture that audio in molar and go from there with cuts and part changes

..so you know my process:
i would actually take for example, the hip hop project in ableton, dub out all of the samples (in 2 or 4 bar) to a file folder that i would then upload to the .cfg file then add them back into a new live set, into molar, as a sample on each of molars individual 1-8 rows, putting the whole track on molar, and only one open channel in the new live set....
and EVERYTHING comes with a big space at the end,, off time, out of synch etc..

so you have all your parts still on their own individual channel in live ???, and rout them all to the monome midi ch. (do u have one monome ch. for each or one for the whole track??)

my prefs set up ( this is inputs only ):

IAC driver bus 1 (T S R )
APC40 input (2 APC emu to live) (T on S R on)
IAC driver (2 APC emu from live) (T S R on)
Akai APC40 (T S R on)
from max/msp runtime 1 (T on S R on)
from max/msp runtime 2 (T on S R on)

.....repost in a sec

ok so im bac...\

01,02,...,08
11,12,...,18
21,22,...,28
this part i dont understand,, but i did get that you instead of having individual waves in the .cfg you have folders so each row can read multiple files if needed

I always number before the name to order files easily.

It can really help during live sessions.

oh and one more thing
when i submitted that second to last post it had compressed the " t s r " that was a representation of "track sync remote" in live
so if its got "on" next to it weelll...
and nothing next to it then thats "off"

ok

You know what?
I'm gonna make some screenshots, it can be better than my approximative english skill

EDIT1: i'll edit this post on the next hours, promised!
I really wanna share the few I know because molar is so good and fun!, hope we will succeed for you can go composing with it.

EDIT2: About meta recording, it has several ways;

Or you simply record while you play with your rows.>> If you don't want the loops playing straight from start to end of the sample... you know for example, you got a drum loop but you wanna make it alive, adding some snare where you like, or a kick somewhere, well playing with the loop finally.

So once you've metarecorded this way [from 1bar to 6 if I remember well], next you can copy what you've done to patterns, with the copy+pattern buttons [on the last row[8] by default] you can copy patterns or modify them and then copy for having a new pattern.

Only after that save FXP files [in ableton live: on the molar device, clic on the save button] and I would advice you to fill the 8 available patterns before.
Those fxp files are really snapshots, sounds included and it's the nice stuff.

If you want to record an audio source, you'll not have a file but an audio stream or an audio temp recording within molar.
So you can do it in ableton live  with an audio track and the audio source from the recorded row[audio track]

I still cant get molar to stop the track once its playing and I can not get the slider to work at all. Did you guys install all the other stuff for a actually monome to work? so the FTDI driver, monomeserial, LiveOsc etc. I only installed max 5.0.6 and used the patch given. My settings are the same as the video but I cant get it to work 100%. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks

No need for monome serial or live osc, Monomulator handle this.

Set up the monomulator right and you're good to go
Sometimes the max patch resets some values from the last launch, so I do personaly check if all is ok with midi ports and prefix [40h for molar].

I remember Spending half an hour desperate, it was simply a midiyoke port that was out.

Sorry I'm still on pc and can't help a lot mac users
