Motif XS Rack and Mlan (Driver Compatibility) iMac

Post by Oscar F » Wed Feb 24, 2010 4:36 am

I am looking at selling my PC Notebook (trusty old Toshiba).
Own an iMac but haven't upgraded Live since Version 5 ( bought Live 2 through 5 ).
Been using Reason on the iMac but want to keep my MPD32 and get 2 x Novation Launchpads.
Will be getting Live 8 Suite and Max 4 Live but will be replacing Reason with a Motif XS Rack.
If I get the Mlan Card for the XS will the latest Drivers be compatible with Live 8 on an iMac.
I don't need audio in (as i use a field recorder for custom audio material / field recording etc with USB file transfer) and I use an Apogee Duet Also.
My Understanding is that the XS rack will with Mlan will work as an Audio Out interface and allow the streaming of XS parts into a DAW for processing with Live's Effects also.
Is the XS+Mlan compatible with Live and fully functional as expected or should i just keep my mixer and Duet and sequence the XS via USB Midi and record the results into Live itself (the cheaper option).
Anyone working with an XS rack at all ?
Can I use both Core Audio on the Duet and the Mlan Card simultaneously.
Being searching for more information without heaps of luck and was hoping someone here would know of any compatibility issues.
Cheers.

If there are major issues I can do the following.

1.Keep the Apogee Duet

2.Use the Editor for the XS rack in Standalone Mode

3.Sequence the XS via the Built in USB / Midi Port

4.Keep my Mixer and just route my Fusion 8HD and XS rack through the mixer into the Duet ( cheaper option and I know it works)

5.Just go for Live 8 Suite for now (with no 3rd party FX or plugins)

6.Keep Reason and Use it in Rewire Mode

Possibly the better option as I have a large 3rd party refill library (most of which I can't sell) - unless I use the refill unpacker on my PC Laptop and use the samples in Ableton's Sampler, Impulse and Simpler ( what do you people think ?)

Obviously not many people using a Motif XS Rack with the Mlan board and VST editor I gather ?

Can anyone from Ableton chime in on this as no one else seems to know.
Robert, someone from support, anyone ?

I'm interested about the (VST) Motif-Rack XS Editor's compatibility with (OSX) Ableton as well.
The manual lists only Cubase as compatible software. If the VST editor can be run on Live 8, I'll add an XS Rack to my setup pronto.

I am in the same boat - been with live from V2-V5 and went to Reason / Logic.
Logic isn't really my bag.
V8 with XS Rack + Prophecy (Largely for PM leads) and Fusion 8HD for FM and VA would be ideal and I'd drop the cash on the Suite and probably ditch Reason 4.
I know the editor can be used in Stand alone mode but with the Mlan Board and VST3 editor the ease of use would be greatly improved.

I'm more than a year late, but i just purchased the Motif XF7 with FW16E (Mlan's Successor and compatible with XS).
I made my decision after seeing a friend work seamlessly with Ableton Live and Logic while streaming 16 tracks to DAW and back without latency. The motif also becomes an interface playing all DAW synths through its main outs. The new VST Editor is amazing.

Hope you made the same decision.
