Damn I'm not good in explanation

Meta record is not only for recording audio source, it's also meant to "record" snapshots of what you're playing on the monome [apc40 here]

When you start a loop on a row, the first led is lighten, then the second one and so forth.
It's then a STEP sequencer, you can play the pads and record what you've played from 1 bar to 8 by selecting horizontaly the amount of pads on a row.

Use imageshack.us or reformat your picture as gif or jpeg or whatever a web image host accepts
edit2: the samples wont play when the folder paths are in the cfg file instead of sample files.. just tryed it an nathan??
That's exactly what I said the post above
Do it manually in molar>> clic load on the setting menu [above the pads on the vst - up left]

Ok I'll try to make a sort of step by step tutorial with screenshots, as I don't have a video camera.

na i moved the config files by accident, all good now..,

i think there might be something else though im missing because im pretty sure i understand all of what your saying,

but!... when i watched a tutorial on molar done in vimeo on a monome, the guy loaded a sample, the same way you said, and i know, and it fit, it sounded like he just loaded a sample into an ableton clip ...???

mine comes in sounding rushed, way off time, and ALL the samples drums or not have a huge space at the end before they loop ..???

so as for molar/monomulator/apc40/live it is all communicating just fine, Mononulator resets EVERY time though, no biggie.. thats easy i just need to get my samples in time, and the molar warp function doesnt exactly do it, it gets close but still way off....

anyways ima get this sorted one if it takes me a month......so close...........O

weird, I always got the thing rolling sync ,
off course, it depends on how you trig the loop
about warp in molar, I used it a lot at the beginning, now I almost never use it.
Because it can work good on a sample and as soon as you load another sample on the row it can sound very bad [or very good... let's get positive] :P

Here's a little trick I often use to ease the molar:
Now rather than play at 180bpm, I will first divide by 2.
So I play at 90bpm, but after A while I find it too fast for triggering pads and playing with loops.
Then I divide one more time to play at 45bpm [in live].
I admit having set this procedure by seeing a video, the guy was playing at fast bpm but when I was looking to the monome, it was playing slow, giving time to the man :P

Now where's the trick you would say?
The samples will play "almost" the same at 180 or 90 or 45.
But It's simplier to follow the step sequences with 45bpm, It may even be better.

So having a 140bpm will push me to try at 70bpm and at 35bpm.
At the last resort I will surely push the bpm to 720, just to try
I always divide bpm and write bpm on scene launch>>> it will give me 3 or 4 scenes with divided tempo.
What's cool on this, is a bit like a remixing tip... no audio glitch [because it's on the same bpm scale/ 45 90 180 360 or even 720 are considered finally the same bpm]
Ok the counter part to this, if you use clips in ableton live, you'll maybe have to adapt them to the divided tempo.

Be careful about the bpm>>> At first, I always play samples on the original tempo.
I try samples from the same project to remix first...
I play a bit to see how it behaves.
If it really doesn't sound good [pitch too high or too much speedy], you should try to reduce your loop.

For example, if you've recorded a 2bar loop wave file, try to record a one bar loop to use in molar
Indeed, molar will cut the longer files.

I Use 1.b025 (the latest), wav files loads without any glitch
And now I can play with bpm in live easily, it's almost transparent>>> kinda like a clip with repitch mode playing.
I recall 1.b024 was not so efficient.

Again a lot to read

I'm on XP, and have this working as follows:

Download latest version of Monomulator (fixes slider rows THANKS MIKE !!!!!)

In Monomulator:
Use APC40 USB ports for MIDI from & to APC40
Use midiyoke channel 1 for APC automap to & channel 2 for APC automap from Live
Use midiyoke channel 3 for notes MIDI port & 4 for slider MIDI port

Also look at your midi preferences in Monomulator/MAX msp: appropriate i/o midichannels
should be checked!

In Live / control surfaces:
Apc 40 midiyoke 1 as input, 2 as output

midiports, only switch on:
input APC40 from midiyoke 1 - remote: on
input midiyoke 3 - track: on
input midiyoke 4 - remote: on

Do not switch on APC40 in- or output USB ports here, or any MIDI output ports for that matter.

Let me know if this fixes it for you.
Best
Bert
I'm trying this and everytime im setting the midiyoke inputs my ableton freezes and crashes. halp? does this mean my midi yoke didnt install right?

that crash was the midi feedback he mentioned in the video... you must not use midiyoke in1 and out1 for example. always use midiyoke in1 and then out2 or whatever but never the same number for in and output. the crash occurs once you activate the midichannels with wrong combination in the live preferences.

okay that makes sense, i'll have to check that out more when i get home.

there was a lot of midi channels activated, and when i tried to deactivate all of them it would crash. I ended up just making sure the proper ones were activated and left the others on and it started to work.

my only issue i think has to do with the config file for molar. i got the step sequencer going, but when its counting off it doesn't stop at the end of the APC40 pads. it keeps counting to 16 instead of just 8. anyone know how to fix that?

really excited about this and can't wait to get it all worked out and start rocking on it. my plan is to actually get the nonome running on a launch pad and just use that purely as a monome, and then use my APC40 to launch other clips and do effects.

i tried the .5/.25 time and its much better on the sound and speed, but the beat still has a big gap at the end of it, like i said it was made to 2 bars long, maybe 8 or 16 would be better??

oh an i dont understand still the routing... why audio ch.s w/ molar ins, and how you select outputs in molar?

O0oo....

in the 40h.cfg file:
OUTPUT CONFIG (rows 1-16, output 1-8)
[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][1]
then you'll have to edit I/O in Ableton Live

I really don't know about the gap at the end.

Maybe in cfg file... the way samples are filtered through MOLAR. Resampled, Sliced and Soundtouch.
I doubt you have changed this but in the case of>> RESAMPLED

[0] (Molar loop load method - 0=resampled, 1=sliced, 2=soundtouch)

be careful about following:

DEFAULT PATCH - ROW MODE (0,1,2,3) (SND/SN1/LP1/LTG)
[2][2][2][2][0][0][0][0]

Maybe try LTG (replace the 2 or the 0 by 3)
I'm not saying to put all on LTG, but at least one to try.

can't tell you more for the moment

EDIT:  One last thought, Try to reduce lenght of your loops>>> feed molar with one bar samples.
Short drumloops and so forth. you could even reduce to half a bar to see what happens.

Apologies for the (probably) stupid question but is there anything you should do differently here if you have M4L?
