I'm running Live 4 and Arkaos via rewire on a new Powerbook 17" 1.67 with 1Gig ram with Arkaos going full screen out the s-video port. It works great. I'm running 4 stereo audio tracks in live and one midi device at the same time. About 1 month now into rehearsals and it hasn't choked yet, knock on wood.

maybe my problem was just lack of RAM then, because whenever i move *any* sort of visualization over to 2nd desktop, Live starts sputtering. my ATI eats up 128 of my 512 right off the bat. RAM for the pc i'm using (a new HP) is still expensive, though, and it isn't high in my budget, given that i can make do with my two notebooks. i have not, however, actually had a detailed look at the Performance monitor while doing these things, so at this point i'm just speculating.

by the way, i've been trying out many VJ softs. some of them are far too unstable for me to use live. some don't do midi. others don't output to 2nd monitor. i like what Grid does; i just wish it had more "organic life form" style effects... things you can trigger for a whole verse or chorus that react to beat detection in interesting ways. i need to do this as much if not more than use prefab clips. Arkaos doesn't seem designed for beat detection at all. i think just one of its fx has a beat detection parameter. maybe i'll look at Grid Pro. maybe play more with Isadora.

jho - what resolution are you running on your Powerbook? I want to run XGA (1024 x 768) as it's the native resolution of the projector. My G5 pumps it out without a problem. I'd love to try it on a 17" 1.67GHz.. think I need a trip to the Apple Store!
