8.1.1 Problem with auto add clip fades

Post by chapelier fou » Wed Jan 13, 2010 2:59 pm

Hi,

I am doing live looping. The first time a recorded clip is being played , I hear an anoying "cliktrch" at the begginning, 95% of the time. After this, it loops smoothly.
Disabling "auto add clip fades" in the prefs "solves" it but can introduce another kind of looping clicks.

My actual default warping is "beats", but I tried with "repitch", same prob.

It's also not a driver issue, I tried with ridiculously big buffer sizes.

I've been having weird issues with fades all together.

For instance, I will hear audio playing back where there is clearly no audio clip, and loud bursts of audio coming from the front of a fade, or hell even in the start of a fade out. I've found it's just best to not use fades at all completely and do fades with utility. (Leaving auto fades on to automatically add the micro fades though)

Using 8.1.1 on win 7 professional 64bit...

Nobody else ?
I got no answer from ableton support...
I am on 8.1.1, thinking of going back to 8.0.9, but I am not sure if it solves the problem...

No other livelooper complaining ?
I mean, it's not a total performance killer, but it really bothers me.

I have both these problems. ..

- pop on the edge when live recording in the session view then no pop during playback

- crazy explosive bursts of noise on the edges of fades in the arrangement view. Bursts are way louder than the material in the clips and are quite violent in character. They go away if I add a minescule amount of space in between the clips where possible. Where i cant do that I just make volume curves in the track

I am in touch with the abes, and fr me, a temporary solution is to decrease/increase the tempo from 1 bpm, you should try.

increase/decrease the bpm by 1??

that would make me worry about audio quality....cello sounds CRAPPY when you play it back in any bpm other than what it was recorded in

and i don't use warping on about 50% of my clips, so everything would get out of sync.

i'm not a fan of "solutions" that cause more problems.

but thanks though!

looking forward to an announcement from ableton of what bugs they are fixing for the next update.

Yeah I understand. I don't care since my audio is only recorded live, the rest is mainly midi. I hope it'll be fixed soon though.

wondering if this is a known issue that will be in the next Live release....

again: LOUD noise (peaks the output meters and feels like its blowing out my speakers) between clips that have independent fades when the clips are touching (i.e. not cross-fades)

if you put a tiny bit of silence between the clips, the noise goes away.

happens in every set
only plugin is Live reverb

I have this problem as well. It makes the fades really obnoxious to have on, seeing as they do the exact opposite of what they are supposed to!

"soon"

I hope so. I just experienced a FADE EXPLOSION that practically blew out my speakers and made my unborn baby practically leap out of my stomach. freaked the sh*t out of me.

No way am I trying another beta version.

Many reasons...I'm sick of being a beta tester but, mostly its too risky that I'll forget and open a file without saving a version of it....and then I'll not be able to revert.

A bunch of my songs are huge and complicated and I made the mistake of opening them in 8.1.1 and I'm stuck here.
