Problem with MIDI mapping effects (and effect parameters)

Post by harvestein » Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:43 pm

Is there a way to make a midi mapping activate under certain conditions?
For example, i have different effects mapped to a selector dial (so i can switch between them), so if you turn the dial it switches from one effect then along to the others, one by one.
I also have two dials underneath to control parameters of that effect (like delay time and dry/wet)
problem is the two dials underneath change the mapped parameters on ALL the effects, not just the active selected one.
Is there a way to make the inactive effects ignore the midi inputs from the two dials until it is the active effect?

I want to do this because when you switch back to a different effect the settings have changed as I have been using the dials on a different effect.
This can cause me some damage to the ears and a change of underwear at times.

i sort of have an idea.. but it requires either more knobs.. or a midi controller that allows for you to switch presets/layouts with different midi channels on the knobs AND uses relative midi control.

So I guess it starts with, what controller do you use?

Im using an electribe EMX-1

I have the oscillator type select dial for each synth part associated with a different rack of effects. So im allready doing what your are suggesting to make the synth dial select different effects and on different audio racks.
That is essentially what selecting a synth part does on the electribe, changes all the midi outputs to a different channel, so that option is out im afraid. maybe there is a pickup mode that will only kick in if the effect is selected. i will need to check it out.

if i managed to find a workaround ill post it up.

Search for Trypsets posts about Electribe controllers. Very helpful.

Hey after reading trypsets post here: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=83914
i have decided i might just change the mapping so i map the effect racks to the drum parts instead, and the clips to the synth parts. better get the hang of midi-ox / Midi Yoke though.

Cheers!

EDIT: Im not sure the synth type dial send out signals when a drum part is selected though, ill give it a try.
