Jim Morrison predicts Dubstep

Post by Angstrom » Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:56 am

Jim Morrison predicts Dubstep in 1969,
er, kinda

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoVJ-55ZloE#t=8m52s

but still, this seems quite forward thinking for 1969.
I suppose "Switched on Bach" came out the year before, but still, nice predictifyin' furry face.

I remember when my cousin showed me that video, I thought it would make a great sample to put in a track. Retro futurism!

Although I don't think he was predicting dubstep, because he said "someone singing and relying on machines", which sounds more like a description of Mathias Aguayo or Björk

Saw this awhile back and thought his prediction was pretty accurate. But why dubstep?

Edit: More like NIN

why dubstep?
because I couldn't think of the word for what he was describing ... which was probably more like Howard Jones, or Thomas Dolby, or someone like that.
and I was a bit drunk. So I thought - fuck it, put the first "one man on a computer" music word that comes into my head.

thats really neet actually, but how did you share the link where it started playing at the end of the video?
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

the part of the url at the end is a youtube anchor for time you want it to start at.

#t=8m52s in this case, obviously it works on any video, any time.

Jupiter by Gustav Holst. The 'drop' is a half time rhythm.

Good work on starting the video at 8 min 52 s.

Tried to watch from the beginning.. but..
... just couldn't get past the hair.

Had to quit at "rock gods as shaman".
I'm gonna go worship Tiesto now as the second coming.
2.8ghz Quad Mac, Live 9.77, Remote25, Maschine 1, Fa-66 optical link, Samson 65a. Dog hair.. lots.
