What's with following 2000 people on Soundcloud?
I don't understand. I follow 17 people and I have 9 followers. Thing is, I am pretty sure only about 4 are actually remotely interested in listening to my little dittys because one person follows 1999, another 1259 and yet another 339, and 159 and 133. I can hardly keep up with listening to the 17 people I follow. What's the idea of connecting in big numbers like this?
Edit: Actually, when I think about it, probably less than 4 are interested in my ditty's because only 2 people have ever commented, positively or critically in a concerned way.

I'm no expert on soundcloud, but that's a text-book symptom of myspaceitus.

Everything on the net that has to do with social networking is about quantity over quality and nobody is fooled, yet everybody does it.

I follow and listen gjm. I haven't commented yet except in the Live link your music forum, not many people tend to comment on Soundcloud, and I think that unless you're a subscriber you can't read comments anyway.
(I'm not a subscriber, just a free user. 29 euros a year is too much when you're unemployed).
I don't think it's as much social orientated as Myspace or other places, I think people follow because they did like at least one of your music tracks, even if they don't comment as such.

Re: What's with following 2000 people on Soundcloud?
The stats give me enough info about people listening. I am actually surprised considering all but one of the tracks on my cloud are for my music teaching... not really tunes in and of themselves. But what I can't quite get my head around is what advantage there would be for me to spend the next several hours signing up to follow 2000 people. Is it just to generate traffic?
Hey beats, I am not sure I get what you are saying. I don't see how the quantity thing is relevant unless you are selling something. I can see a rationale that is about developing traffic, even if it is only for one look at your product, but thats not 'social networking.' That is just piggy backing on the vehicle used by social networkers. How does the quantity thing work? What could I expect with something like soundcloud?Everything on the net that has to do with social networking is about quantity over quality and nobody is fooled, yet everybody does it.

It started out great amnd loads of people took the time to comment on each others tracks. Now, it's just another 40 million people pushing the tracks out.
'Mr. Buttscratch has shared a private track with you.'
It's tedious.
I'm cancelling my accounts tonight. I'll get that liberating feeling like when I ditched Facebook.

i follow about 2000 cause 5-10 percent will follow you back
it was purly myspace style. thing is it is really easy to follow someone on the cloud compared to myspace.

Re: What's with following 2000 people on Soundcloud?
soundcloud becomes really a big promotional tool
got about 100 followers, and 50 that I follow
but I still receive tracks (and not free tracks...) from people I don't follow, and these tracks are allways shared to what, 2975 people?????
fuck that, I loved soundcloud, but I don't like these new features and these new commercial users...
anyway it's still a great tool for me (I purchased the solo account),
but these damn kids, feew
