Tempo Automation With Simpler
Tempo Automation With Simpler
Hello
I am sorry if this has been covered previously. I have a sequenced loop programmed to play a sample using Simpler. What I want is for the tempo of just this loop on Simpler to increase while the tempo of the rest of the arrangement remains constant. Is there a way to do this? I can see how it can be done if you disable warping on an audio sample but can it be done with Simpler. It seems like a simple enough idea that it should be do-able.
I suppose I could record the loop one time, export it as audio, and then dump the resulting audio into an audio track. I wanted to see if there is a way to do it with just the Simpler instrument first though.
(I don't mind programming a Max patch to do this if I need to but I'd like to leave that as a last resort.)
Thanks
Sundar

Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
I would suggest doing your idea, except dumping that new loop into a new Simpler dedicated to that loop. All you'd have to do i think to change the tempo of that loop is tweak the pitch while it is playing? Another option is going into a legato/glide type mode, setting a long transition time.
Oh, or you can use Looper. Set it so that it does not sync to host.

Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
Right, but Looper also increases the pitch of the loop when I increase the speed at which the loop is played. I would like to be able to play the loop faster without changing its pitch level. Even when I dump it into an audio track, I see that I can only change the tempo at which the loop is played by factors of two. I would like to do something more continuous than this...
Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
Closest solution I can think of for that would be "Slice to MIDI", and an arpeggiator with beatsync off
..but it would be a mess hahaha. You would retain your pitch, but also have variable speed control. (as long as you have sliced your loop quantized)

Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
Hi..You use the numeric field above the +2 -2......That will allow the tempo to change in increments....Jon
Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
OK, yes, I see that I can do this with the number in the "Seg. BPM" box but there is only one hitch... The length of the loop remains fixed (in 'absolute' terms) unless I keep resetting it. As a result, even if I play through the loop faster by reducing the "Seg. BPM" number, Live just plays silence until it reaches the end of the loop brace (because the basic tempo of the audio track is still tied to the global tempo). Then it begins the loop again. Is there any way I can link the loop brace to the warp markers so that the loop is automatically resized each time the seg. BPM is changed? Alternatively, is there any way I can decouple an audio track's tempo from the global tempo?
Re: Tempo Automation With Simpler
When I use ":2" or "*2", the loop is automatically resized. Is there a way to make this happen when I use the number box? It actually seems a little surprising that this would be difficult since I thought this would be useful for DJs.
