Live 8.1.3 - novation sl mk II what's the deal ?
Re: Live 8.1.3 - novation sl mk II what's the deal ?
..the slMkII physical controls are supposed to be better quality,,,
and there's led feedback on all the knobs/buttons..
the sl-zeroMKII's faders are longer...
minus 1 lcd..(shame really)
and minus battery power...(double shame..)
hadn't had the chance to confirm this ..
but the MKII's build is supposed to be better..
the control options are all the same....

I asked Novation and they said yes--except for LED feedback because the Mk1 does not have LEDs surrounding its knobs.selthym wrote:I was wondering if whatever they have created will be compatible with the Mk1's????

Man I just stumbled upon that email from Novation telling me my SL MKII will work in amazing fashion with Live now, including automap control of the native plugins and mixer parameters (like it is in Cubase, or so I hear).
Then this goddamned thread came along.
Ugh! I sure hope you guys are being jealous pessimists because I was really freekin excited before you guys shot me down right quick.
Can anyone else tell me this isn't just clever marketing?

I've just been using my SLMkII with the latest Live 8 beta and SLMkII firmware and its REALLY cool. It has the following cool things as far as I can tell...
1) NEW - All the encoder LED rings now work! (the MkI has no encoder LED rings I believe & MkII didn't work until now.)
2) NEW - All the LEDs in the buttons now work!... this allows a mini-APC40 one row scene launcher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3) NEW - the LCD now shows Actually Device ranges Cutoff in Hz, beats in note values...VERY cool
4) Touch sense works! it switches the LCD display to what ever you touch, so if you touch a slider, the LCD display follows
5) Also, there are LOADS of new features in Live 8 which I think have been done for the APC40, so it uses all the stuff that was done for that, like track arming selects a track AND remembers the last device you clicked on!
....on yeah, when your in a plug-in/device, you can page to AS MANY pages as there are parameters, so this gets you past only seeing 8 parameters at a time... thats better than my APC40 which doesn't even tell me what the control is (ie no display)
This new update doesn't actually go through Automap software, it is direct into Ableton Live 8, so I tried using Automap alongside this new update and it WORKS for even more assigning madness
..still lots to explore...

Re: Live 8.1.3 - novation sl mk II what's the deal ?
Not very exciting at all. The only difference seems to be allowing buttons to launch individual clips instead of whole scenes (which the mkI did already). That's cool, but nothing else new at all that I can tell.
I just wish they would let us map out our own templates for the Live devices, over the whole controller, like we can in Logic, Pro Tools, and many other DAWs. In Ableton we're stuck with using the 8 encoders. How cool would it be to control operator with all the controls?
On a side note, I wouldn't say the build is much different with the mkII. I've got an SL61 mkI and an SL25mkII. The only thing I like more about the mkII is the smooth encoders. I don't care for the touch sensitivity and would gladly trade back the encoder LED rings and button lighting for the second display back. That's just a pain and hard to get used to.

Hi napalmbrain
Can I ask you to check to see if on your your SL Mk2 the pads, the row of rotaries above the pads and the row of buttons above the rotaries are working for you in Live 8.1.2b6 and Automap 3.4.1 please. In other words the pads and controls that can be mapped?
My pads work in 8.1.1 but not in 8.1.2b6
Cheers
