Launchpad Midi Channel
Launchpad Midi Channel
1) Is there any way to change the global midi channel of Launchpad?
2) Can user modes be set to different midi channels to that 'session' and 'mixer' modes use?

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
Yes you can with Automap, but then you'll loose the "Live-ready" features.

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
you can't change the midi channel without using some third party app, in which case you'll lose automap.
1. no
2. no
midi channels are so 1990s. think of these devices as using midi ports.

We need to be able to edit the control surface script. That's all we need. PLEASE.

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
choosing midi channels should be standard imo.
Got all my (6) devices programmed logically to not fight each other,... simples... got 16 channels to choose so loads of scope.
Presently using a control button locked to the midi feedback on/off as a workaround, would be good if it (or multiple) could be mapped to the session and mixer buttons button on the LP, maybe a Max4l patch could do it..??

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
the main problem about launchpad and midi channels comes when you use the midi feedback while recording midi clips.
If then you pick the session view with the feedback track on, the session view becomes a mess.

Yeah - it's pretty ridiculous. I'd be very surprised if we don't see an editor application released soon. This device isHermanus wrote:the main problem about launchpad and midi channels comes when you use the midi feedback while recording midi clips.

physically so bare-bones that it needs to be fully user configurable. And of course the whole problem with LED colours and
colour blindness...

There is one : Katapult.
But I made my (very) own on max, and I am pretty sure katapult does not handle multiple LPs.

Yes, and the strange thing is that the LP uses different midi channel for each page or mode, from something to 5 for the session mode to 10 or 11 for the mixer mode (each one of its pages also has a dedicated channel).the main problem about launchpad and midi channels comes when you use the midi feedback while recording midi clips.

It sends its data towards multiple channels, but it receives everything on one channel.

And the novation support is abslotutely ridiculous...

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
Am I crazy or does my User1 transmit notes on channel 1 and channel 5.. this messes everything up because I need to choose "All Channels" to get this to work, and by doing this, ANY other controller transmiting on ANY other channel will mess with what I'm trying to do with the Launchpad in user1 mode.. tsk tsk tsk

Honnestly I gave up trying to understand what's happenning on what channel....I admit it is very weird and there is really a lack of documentation.

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
Ive had to change the midi channels a couple of my existing devices to fit around the LP. no big deal really...
Have to resign myself to:-
session (great name session, i like a good sesh me),
user 1 (with no visual feedback (unless de-activated by controler) as fucks with session mode,.... quite how that one was thought through is beyond me???)
user 2 (midi ch's 5 & 6, that I can work with....see top line)
mixer. (cant see meself using this much so shame its not customizable)
Every piece of kit I've got has been programmed with its own midi channel/s with notes/cc's in a logical a-b format so I can assign whatever I like whenever I like with no conflicts. It does seem though that my Mackie EMU is locked to Midi ch. 1 ....though as is set as a 'top line device' has no conflict with the Launchpad which is cool.

Re: Launchpad Midi Channel
I think User 1 just transmits on 5 and receives on 1, doesn't it?outershpongolia wrote:Am I crazy or does my User1 transmit notes on channel 1 and channel 5.. this messes everything up because I need to choose "All Channels" to get this to work, and by doing this, ANY other controller transmiting on ANY other channel will mess with what I'm trying to do with the Launchpad in user1 mode.. tsk tsk tsk
I'm guessing there was some reason but it would have seemed logical to me to at least have each mode to transmit and receive on a different channel. I read somewhere that Novation replied to someone and said that it was not possible to change though (I find this hard to believe) and I think there is actually a support page about how the feedback affects other modes. It seems they've just acknowledged and accepted this problem. Shame. Sounds silly but having to turn on and off MIDI feedback manually is quite irritating.
I'm not sure that this is a solution... Surely it gives you less functionality than Automap alone and you lose the native Live functions, which you don't have to do if you use Automap as an addition. Maybe I missed something though.midimood wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCTvrxYI2fI
