drum tracks change volumes across clips

Post by dk1187 » Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:43 pm

hello, i'm using ableton live 8.1. i drew out and arranged all the different clips for my drum track, tweaked a few things here and there, then realized that the bass and snare drums get a few decibels louder/quieter on certain clips. i checked over all the volumes and envelopes for everything, all the settings and can't find any reason for the bass/snare drums to be getting louder/quieter on some clips. i forget every little thing i did to the drum track but i don't think i did anything that would make that happen. i'm using ableton's built in drum kit (sessiondrylite-stick) and it stays like that even when i switch out the drum kit. i need all the drums to be consistent in volume so it will be easier to work with, and i can't adjust the volumes for the drums across all the clips because it wouldn't be precise and it's too tedious. how did this happen and how can i get the drums to be the same default volume across all the clips? thanks

Have you checked to make sure the velocity is the same for all the MIDI notes? If not, higher velocities = more volume on each hit.

You can put a "velocity" parameter (under MIDI section in menu bar) in the beginning of your chain and set it to 100 max output. That would let you know immediately if it is a velocity issue.

thanks a lot, i didn't even know about the velocity tool. it appears it was the velocity and i was able to get all the hits the same volume. thanks for the help!
