However, slowly adding new features to Live gives Ableton reasons to create upgrades, thus more cash. They know about this stuff TRUST me. Apple is very similar with their products...like the ability to do video on the iphone, you have to buy the new one... etc etc. The good news is, Ableton likes to keep things simple and clean as possible. This is a very good business strategy though. Cubase has everything, yes, but they have been around for eons building the software, when some of you were still in diapers
No MIDI transpose +12 / -12 function?

I don't know if you understand this, but adding a seemingly small feature to a complex software is not done in 30 minutes. Also, developing software costs A LOT of money. Design, implementation and testing of even the smallest feature can easily take a week and cost several thousand euros. So, developing software at this level takes time, and money. Ableton is a business, so, in order to continue developing software, they need to make money. So, well, one rather cheap update every year, or wait five years for ableton to all the features you want and then pay 5 times as much for the upgrade. Your choice.clank72 wrote:However, slowly adding new features to Live gives Ableton reasons to create upgrades, thus more cash.
Live + M4L, MacBookPro & Ultralite mk3. Plugins from Softube, Soundtoys, Eventide, 2CAudio, Cytomic, AudioDamage, OhmForce, FabFilter, SonicCharge, Waves, MadronaLabs, NI and ExpertSleepers. Oh, and a bunch of hardware... =D

I didn't say it takes 30 minutes. But what your saying is (based off my post) the reason Ableton doesn't have the most OBVIOUS missing features of a normal DAW is because, well, it simply takes just too much time. But creating lame presets and Beat Repeat plugins are way more important!

I totally agree that I would gladly choose to exchange some of Lives features for other features instead, but that's really a different discussion. What they focus their time and effort on is likely dependent on what they believe will sell the most.clank72 wrote:I didn't say it takes 30 minutes. That being said, I think most of the features I was missing was implemented in v8.

Dunno if anyone found the solution yet so here goes -
On a MAC + and arrow up and down to shift a semitone at a time
to move by an octave shift and arrow works.

i'm using live 8 - sure! - but I don't see it's any easier?
by the way - + and arrow down doesn't work, you need to drop a whole octave and then arrow up 1 semitone at a time.

spend much time on these posts? good for you! maybe you should learn to construct a sentence.

Re: No MIDI transpose +12 / -12 function?
this is a good reason why Ableton needs this wish list feature, commit midi effect to sequencer. so he could transpose it with the pitch plug in and have it committed on the track/clip

Re: No MIDI transpose +12 / -12 function?
yep.. this really sucks that such fundamentals like octave transpose or trackdelays cant be achieved sopontanious in live...
when you adress two buttons to two pitch modules.. one 1 oct up..one 1 oct down.. you can simulate it ..so when boot buttons are pressed ( or better unpressed via mapping ) you are neutral and changing one of them will do the oct up/down thing than..
Thats of cause far from a spontanious oct up/down..
