Snapshots of series of scenes

Post by erwblo » Wed Mar 30, 2005 1:57 pm

What i would like is to be able to make snaphots of series of scenes (call them songs) so ik would be able to start different songs (bij dragging snapshots into live) out of a big collection on the spot. Depending on mood and audience, etcetera. What i do now is make one big 'song' for a gig. That 's far from ideal. If other people asked for it, sorry. There's too many wishes to go through the whole forum ;-)

Yeah. I feel snapshots in general are the best way for realtime quick and easy song structuring. What would be nice is if you could take a snapshot of the whole session view with track settings, sequences and all. Then once you take the snapshot, you could rearrange anything anyway you want as if it were a whole different "instance". If you want to recall the former "instance" settings, just select that snapshot.
There could be a page where snapshots could be arranged to form the song structure.

this has been brought up before and i think the best way to solve this problem is to have the ability to open mulitple session at once. but not in sepearate window, thats already possible. i mean in different tabs. there should be tabs at the top of live and each would have an A and B for crossfading. they should be small tabs like the size of a clip slot, or a bit longer. and somewhere there would be a master crossfader for the sessions. the sessions should be tempo independent, but there should be a sync button to sync the rest of the sessions to the one currently shown.

to take this even further, sessions could be dragged into a clip slot so that they can play in sync with the rest of the session. this isnt a completely new idea. programs like Adobe Premiere use "nesting" to group mulitple sequences of video clips together for easier editing such as color correction. this way u can treat all the clips as a whole. same with dragging a session into a track, we would be able to treat it as a single clip, complete with envelopes for tempo and stuff.

lol to take this even more further, i would love to have a track grouping feature. this would be perfect for drums. you can have the different parts of a drum loop playing simultaneously in different tracks. to group them together, you would just highlight all the track by holding shift or ctrl and clicking the titles of the tracks. once all the tracks are highlighted then there should be a keyboard shortcut like ctrl+G or something. this will collapse all the tracks into one. now u can play the different scenes for the drum parts as one clip. and the cool part is that u can add effects to this group as if it were one track. oh and to show all the tracks in the group again i guess there should be a little arrow in the title bar to swivel them open and closed, just like in Operator's title bar.

so theres my idea, oh and follow actions for scenes would be nice too.
