Machines - You don't make that clear in your first description. We are also going on a subjective opinion from someone at Mac OSX audio several years back if this is the case. The rest of the stuff, such as word length and sampling rate is always up for debate vigourously at places like Gearslutz, where a person could argue for weeks ad nauseum. I don't plan on doing this debate here any longer, nor the merits of Altiverb vs Space Designer so I'm out.

Since neither of us have actually physically tested Space Designer against Altiverb with the same impulses (although we both have experience of using these programs seperately), I would suggest you're as guilty as I am of interweb debating and coming to conclusions based on assumptions. Bonne nuit

Look, you're generally a helpful guy, but I have not stated a single thing here that's interweb debating oriented, except calling you out on it.
In blind tests that I heard using the same impulse response, Altiverb sounded better. You're the one who needs to argue that, because you're all worked up over dum calling you out on Altiverb in the first place.... and like many people you cannot admit to a deep seated need to be right. Unfortunately even when you're being proven wrong.

Yeah, I'm a stubborn old bastard. Dum called me out but I'm still at a different opinion to him and you and I worked with Logic 6-8, PTHD5-7.4 and Cubase SX2 - C5 with Altiverb almost every day for 8 years, through versions 2-6, so I'm not just speaking this stuff idly based on my opinion through hearsay, although any one experience is obviously not a universal situation.

I could give you names of other engineers who support what I've said but again, it is a pointless and futile exercise, I'm stubborn but not to the point of endless bickering, it's not like I'm getting paid 1,000 bucks to win this (although I could use it). I actually really like Altiverb and until recently, it was far and away the superior choice for convolution reverb. It still is, but there are now many great convolution reverbs with some great impulses for less money. Reverberate and SIR2 being two I've used which are very low on CPU usage and sound great with good Impulses.

I'm not trying to cause any offense here and if I've come off as being a cunt lately then I apologize - being unemployed and sick is making me pretty moody and irritable. Machines, you're one of the posters on here I respect the most and usually we are more aligned in our opinions, but I'm happy to agree to disagree (to some extent) and say no more on this one. Well I'm only talking about Altiverb six. and if you still maintain altiverb six was a hog when you used it, it's safe to say your studio machine was riddled with malware from all the gay porn and online poker it was used for between sessions.

It was a 2008 Mac Pro octacore only used in the studio, with an Apogee Symphony 64 and PTHD3 with Accel card and Digidesign 192 I/O and not hooked up to the net, we had to do offline authorisations, although some of the people I worked with were a bit suspect, so possibly could have hooked up gay pr0n

I'm not saying Altiverb 6 was a hog, (definately not compared to earlier Altiverbs), just it was a bit heavier than Space Designer in Logic or SIR2. Maybe I exaggerated a little, but it was my true experience.

The part in bold was the point I was making in it's entirety. In tests I've heard it seems that Altiverb, even pre-6 sounded better than Space Designer using the same impulse responses. I also thought it was all due to the meticulous impulse responses they use, but it's IMO quite possible it's due to the 32 bit IRs. That other reverbs sound almost as good was never my point.

Personally I don't need a perfect, super wide sounding reverb, those kinds of audio differences are not that noticeable in aggressive noisy rock music, so Space Designer is fine for my needs, but I would without a doubt recommend Altiverb to anybody who needs the best sounding reverb. That it's at the top of the heap isn't really that arguable to me, sure others can get 90% there, but if I worked in film I dammed sure wouldn't be using SIR2 to copy acoustic spaces accurately.

It will feature their own algo section, which is layered over the IR one to make it extra nice should you want that kind of effect...
Sounds promising

you will be able to drag/n/drop files from the host straight onto altiverb and it will make an impulse response out of it. niiiiiiiice. can be used in clever ways with the enhanced browser..

The browser's been improved, so you can find similar reverbs to the one you are using (through IR analysis, not word associations) also using keywords for browsing etc - stuff like that, an auto-mated update process for new altiverb IRS...that's gonna be a god send.

64 bit, don't need it but whatever

Vir Syn do a nice reverb called 'Reflect' which combines algos with IRs. Sounds nice so far, just got the demo recently.
