I was feeling pretty good about 8, until I used it in a DJ set a couple weeks ago, and it had audio dropouts all over the place, along with CPU spikes, all with not running any third party plugsins. As a result, I don't think I'll open 8 in a situation like that for awhile...

I just performed the first gig of my new tour, 1 hour and a half of livelooping and playing pretty complex sets without a single problem.

It's almost like it'd be better if EVERYONE had problems.. I mean, not really cause that would suck, but it makes it so much worse when you have a problem and then someone else is like "it works fine and I'm beating it to shit every night"chapelier fou wrote:I just performed the first gig of my new tour, 1 hour and a half of livelooping and playing pretty complex sets without a single problem.
You know what I'm saying? it's like it makes stability so close, yet so far away... but I shouldn't talk cause I only have crashes when I'm doing stupid shit like moving a midi clip or deleting a track.. (or using a k'd absynth/massive, but we won't get into that)
Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
I get this... the absence of logic, rhyme, reason, or any type of pattern is the worst feeling...outershpongolia wrote:It's almost like it'd be better if EVERYONE had problems..
it could be, ummm, ANYTHING! Worse place to be when trouble shooting an issue...
yeah cuz thats not an issue...outershpongolia wrote: but I shouldn't talk cause I only have crashes when I'm doing stupid shit like moving a midi clip or deleting a track
some of us are pissed... the rest of us are far too complacent.
Please Abes... Please... the dogs are hungry...we have chewed the bones, licked the bowls, fetched the sticks and rubbed our asses on the carpet... we need some fresh meat! what up with 8.1.2???????????????

Hahah, wasn't it you that said the exact same thing? about moving clips, or deleting groups and shit would crash live? it was either you or 3phase I think..H2Oonly wrote:yeah cuz thats not an issue...outershpongolia wrote: but I shouldn't talk cause I only have crashes when I'm doing stupid shit like moving a midi clip or deleting a track
Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
After years of Live being the most hassle-free software I regularly use, and after a super-intense 74 minute set with 80+ tracks running perfectly for two months for a live opera-type show, I have returned from tour to my home studio to find that LIve won't open AT ALL on my main studio machine, G5 2.3 16GB RAM OS X 10.4.11, the one which happily and reliably constructed the set I was reliably performing on my MBP 2.6 4GB RAM.
WHAT IS UP??? I have been away from my studio, it has not been used, and therefore nothing has changed. I used Live the day I left without incident. I can't open a single session either.
Just a blank box with the Live logo and an "OK" button.
I tried downloading the 8.1, as I had been using 8.01 and the latest version of MAX/MSP, but to no avail.

Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
I have had issues with it crashing on deleting groups... but I don't remember which rev is was... maybe 8.0.5 or earlier.. whatever the case may be... its time to see some positive change.outershpongolia wrote:Hahah, wasn't it you that said the exact same thing? about moving clips, or deleting groups and shit would crash live? it was either you or 3phase I think..

Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
I had to throw my 2 cents worth in here.
I use both Logic and Live. I started with Logic in the Emagic days, and it's my main program for writing music. It is integral to my workflow. But it has always had bugs. I bought Live 6 in order to (go figure) use live - at that time I could not trust Logic in a realtime scenario.
Live 6 has never once, ever, crashed on me, or screwed up anything. I have it on a macbook that I only use for performance. I cannot believe how rock solid Live 6 has been over the years. For this reason, I have never upgraded it. I don't need new features, I need it to be rock solid. Of course I don't need new features because I use Logic for writing, most users want more features from Live if they are going to use it for writing, I get that. That's what led to Live 8.
For people who are thinking of switching to Logic because they are pissed with Live 8, I can tell you that there are things about Logic that are frustrating as well. Apple will never, ever, speak of a bug until the moment they are releasing the update that fixes it. There are bugs in Logic 9 that have been in existence since Logic 7. With each new upgrade, and new OS, Logic users have their share of crashes too. However, I do believe the people at Ableton have been forthright about recent bugs and are working to correct them. They have posted lists of plug-ins that have problems, and communicate with their customers. I do believe they feel bad about version 8 and are working to correct these problems.
Software is complex, Live and Logic both have bugs and issues, and always will.
The way Apple and Ableton deal with this is quite different, if that matters to you.
At the end of the day though. I have a version of Ableton live that I use all the time that has never crashed. I have never had a version of Logic that didn't crash sometimes. So why do I put up with Logic? It has features I need. If you go on the Logic forums all the angry people complain about crashes and bugs, but they put up with Logic because of it's features. Let me say it again - People like me who paid $1200 for Logic put up with the bugs and crashes because of the features. I don't think that point was lost on Ableton who were making a much cheaper program that was more reliable. Adding features at the cost of reliability works for Apple. It's almost a business model for them.
Then Apple cut the price of Logic by more than half, making it cheaper than Live.
That had to hurt.
Ableton started pushing features, they had to if they were going to stay in the game. Sadly this path has led them away from their core strength of reliability. Let's hope it's temporary. They need to rebuild some customer trust. Live 8 may be bad, but I understand why it happened.
That was probably more like 10 cents worth than 2. .

Re: How solid is Live8 for you?
Nothing but problems!!!
Windows 7 and live 8.1.1. have left me unable to make music. Never had any problems on my laptop with XP and Live8.0.3. Upgraded to a Synergy, windows 7 and latest version of live suite and now after installing Native Instrument VST's and trying to locate these within Ableton had a massive crash and now Live will not open! WTF!!! Not happy at all. Wish I had not bothered wasting so much money and stuck with my original set up which was slow but reliable and stable. Would never recomend Windows 7 to anyone and very frustrated with Live 8.1.1 suite. More fun playing the spoons!!!

^ maybe you should try never recommending those VSTs to anyone instead
*shrugs*
Lets see you, upgraded your OS on your...
cuz that always works sooo well.
You're throwing a lot of stones for someone who upgraded an OS, an app, added a Synergy and grip of NI VSTs all at once. So which is it really? OS? Live? VSTs? Synergy?
Go take a hard look in the mirror and you might find the root cause of the issue. I'd say you didn't think this through all the way.

^ agreed.
Sorry. Not trying to be a dick. I guess I typed what I was thinking and thats not necessarily good form.
Still, you don't take an old cart pony, make it pull your biggest wagon yet and get pissed at the wagon when the pony has cardiac arrest.

I will throw stones whenever I want, dont know who rattled your cage I was talking about Live not your family but never mind. You should get a job with the samaritans.

No, you were BLAMING Windows 7 and Live for your over zealous expectations.MooMinHunter wrote:I will throw stones whenever I want, dont know who rattled your cage I was talking about Live not your family but never mind.
It was the stupidity of your accusations that rattled my cage.
