Universal LFO

Post by BjarneDY » Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:20 pm

I would really like a freestanding LFO, that you could assign universally, e.g. for modulating the "Rate" parameter of the Auto Pan effect. You should be able to assign the LFO to any parameter in the Device Chain.

I know that you can achieve the same effect by using automation, (both for track and clip) but that's quite a bit of work compared to dragging and dropping a LFO, and assigning it to a parameter.

+1 to this.

I sometimes lack of some LFO midi device that you could assign to a specific parameter.
It would really be a great midiFX

when the abes was thinking about how to make live , they created live in a way so that lfos are not easily implemented.

yes i know it sounds stupid but is true.

+1 to this as well. There is a Max plugin available to do this however it would be nice to see something native implemented by Ableton.

this is always useful and may be an alternative to drawing envelopes.

Without a rewrite of a bunch of the code.. or the "core" of the code rather.. BUT said rewrite would give us LFO's, Session View envelope recording and I'm sure there is other stuff so it's not like that's TOO far off.. I mean, would it really hurt to rewrite a program that is buggy as hell this long after the release? Wouldn't hurt me, but I'm sure the developers wouldn't be happy.

+ 1.

i disagree that the program has been made to "not handle LFOs correctly". it's just a matter of granularity.
clearly it handles lfos within synths.
something as basic as faking a midi map (internally) would be fine... then use lfo for the midi range.
with a program that is capable of anything beyond a 64th note, all you have to do is introduce some basic temporal smoothing and you've got what you need.

when i want a lfo i usually just use the auto filter, it's not amazing but you can get some good sounds from it
there's also this free vst i mess around with http://kunz.corrupt.ch/?Products:VST_TAL-Filter
(works with mac and pc)
