ableton warping vs logic flex time editing

im just starting to learn how to use logic - i ve got express 9

just got to the point in the manual about logic's time flex editing

anyone got any views about which one works better, which modes etc etc ?

I tried Logic 9 out on my friends hackintosh. It sucked compared to Ableton. I couldnt seem to to add new transient markers.

All the mags have raved about Logic 9's Flex audio, so methinks you just don't know how to use it.

There's a really good tutorial in November 2009 Sound On Sound but unfortunately you need to be an e-sub to read the whole article and I don't want to be prosecuted for copying the article with no permission here.

The magazines rave on whatever pays theire bills...


the times of test reports that inform the users about flaws are over...
The testers of the magazines are corupted by the free testobjekts and the will of theier employe to dont handle advertizing customers too harshly...


however.. i would be surprised if you wouldnt be able to insert own transient markers..

with logic it often helps to browse the keycommand pages..new functions sometimes have to be asigned to keys by the user first...

unfortunately this seems to be true for magazines - i have a friend who writes for an equestrian magazine and even in that, the articles are written to to suit the companies that pay for advertising in the magazines. She was surprised at how much the truth had to be bent and in-convenient details about products were left out

this is why im relying more on feedback from forums for info

Some magazines are guilty of this, but magazines like Sound On Sound are pretty constructive and always give pros and cons, not just pros because of ad revenue.

I haven't used Logic 9 but reading about what Flex can do, it seems that it is as useful as Protools Elastic Audio and Propellerhead's Record timestretching. Having extensively used Logic 8, I can say it was really lacking in that area.

I admit I had Logic open for about 5 minutes and then shut it down so i could use Live.

but maybe i should be more careful at laughing on the forum - last time i did, i got a death threat .. ... luckily it turned out to be a bit of humour

anyways - thanks dna ... i only messed around with the transients last night for the first time - i think it is possible to add them but dont ask me yet to remember how its done

haha, yeah wasnt exactly helpful. I did find it strange though! hence leaving it alone to get on with making music. Some aspect of it was very intuitive in a more "user friendly" way I think. But I am used to Live and cannot live without session view.

Im sure if they did their homework well enough it is just as good (better?) than Live. Lets hope they do a session view next

yep, it is not holy or anything but in comparison to most of the rest around it is straight up and 'honest' they certainly also point weaknesses or crap out.
