So I guess my question is: if I've never had problems with the demo version of 8, is it safe to assume that when I buy it, I'll continue to have no problems at all or is there something I'm missing?
I mean, if you're using the latest update, you should be okay.. I'd say keep your working version of 6 installed, and don't mess with those projects or that Libary.. I REPEAT, KEEP YOUR WORKING SETUP INCLUDING PROJECTS AND LIBRARIES, because you can't go back if you decide to upgrade the libarary to 8, and if you open projects and overwrite them they wont' work in 6.. Hopefully you know all this already.
I think I get what you're saying. Do you mean having two seperate libraries on the hard drive, one for 6 and one for 8? I did know about being careful with opening old projects in a new version from all the posts on here about it, so I should be ok with that. And more than likely, when I get 8, I'll just do all new projects, since lately I've kind of been putting finishing touches on my old tracks so I won't work on them as much anymore when I finally get 8.

You can open the old projects just don't over write them.. yeah, keep 2 completely seperate libaries and projects and you should be good.. YOu can get creative with 8, and go stable with 6 8)

hi,

i dont know if it is just me but...i dont have too much troubles with live 8.1.1..

i use xp pro with quadcore and live + reaktor and freewares and i have some serious crashes or runtime errors ....yes... but not as often as some people here...

for me, the 8.1.1 version is a lot better than the first ones which were unusable.
But i hope to have a totally stable and more usable version in order to do some gigs and to finalize seriously some of my songs...

But it is true that i make lot of back up of my current projects with differents names to avoid problems héhé .

- "FOR ABLETON's PEOPLE PARTICULARY" héhé : i hope that ableton will have the good idea to give us a 8.5 version , stable, plus little great feature (like bounce in place logic like by exple to improve the audio editor side of live héhé) and maybe a new fx or samples library like in the past with loopmasters, to make us forgetting the bad memories of live 8's first versions...

For me ,a live 8.5's stable version + this bounce in place logic's feature like ,will be christmas before the hour and it help me to forget all these hours lost because of a serious crashes that have corrupted the set files... that is particulary frustrating and sad because i love soo much this wondeful soft and it is my only one daw .

Even if only .5% of users have trouble, if you're one of them I realize you don't care that 99.5% of people have no problem. Particular if you are a professional Live user.

I wonder if there is any correlation between the platform and the percentage of unhappy users? Not that I am suggesting a Mac user have to buy a PC in order to run Live. I used to be a Mac user and that would be unacceptable to me.

Since 2002 I have eventually upgraded each time starting with v1.5. FOR MY USES and on my Win 2000, now XP, PC my problems have been utterly minimal. And that is with many hours of use per week and dozens of 3rd party plugs, rewire, etc. thrown at it.

In fact 8.1.1 is as fast opening and working as just about any previous edition I've used. But I don't have the Suite (and it sounds like I'm glad I don't).

The only complaint I've ever had is that it's unfortunate that there is only one monolithic chunk of code with every controller and instrument in there. I know it's a more complication configuration management issue, but I would have loved to see a model like Cakewalk's, where they have a "Studio" and "Producer" variant of Sonar.

As I said, this is probably of little solace to people having problems.
Live 9.1 <> occasionally Reason 4.0.1 <> Reaper.latest! <> Windows 7 on a bespoke Intel Q6600 <> ASUS P5E <> 8GB RAM, M-Audio Delta 2496 and that's it.

im agree with you rasputin:

and for a live 8.5 version plus some presents..

i think it will be customer friendly and a very elegant way of embellishing their brand image.
Because i love ableton'spirit and this live 8 episod it is very sad : several months after the official release ..no stable version...= and also =

i use live since live 4 and even i ve upgrade from a m-audio live 2 version so i love this soft and im a bit disappointed ...

For me, it is because of all these partnerships...that are good, but their flagship product is LIVE and it must'not be sacrificed.

But im thinking, and i hope ,that ,in some weeks , this debate will be finished !

ciao !

 ...you see some guy come out on stage with just a laptop. He places it front of himself and starts singing to it...feelings...woe, oh ooh...feelings...

yeah, that was a bit on the gay side...but does it ever get frustrating or what?

I wish that Ableton Live had some way of clearing it's Ram load when you deactivate 3party VSTs instead of just having to delete them. I bet that in and of itself would clear up a lot. Also, if 8 was truly 64bit friendly, possibly crash case closed.

It's just completely unrealistic to not use 3party plugs. I'm sorry, but anyone who does not is living a pretty damn sheltered life. :D

All I have had is 8 Suite and it has been problem free. I am running a single core PC with XP. I run NI plugs only.

It's like being in the twilight zone of something. How do you release a product that just keeps getting worse? If Ableton does ANYTHING short of completely restoring their name by REPAIRING 8 from the ground up before going on to one other product or development, I truly believe they will be going out of business. No one can get away with selling anything where every single issue of their product is defective. I don't care how revolutionary their workflow environment is. I don't care who they are or what business they are in. It just doesn't work that way. After loosing a VERY valuable set Thursday evening, that was the last straw.

What I am just about ready to do I have been contemplating for the last 6 months. I am either going to purchase Cubase, Sonar, or Samplitude. I just can't seem to wrap my head around which one will work best for creative purposes.

yeah, i wish we could go back to 6 when everybody was happy with the product:
