How do you make this kinda bass?

I mean, not really imitate it, but how to make it slap like it? Do you layer it? Hmmmm... It's really catchy.

one part of the sound is a layered (or played) snare on every note hit of the bass, that is perfectly in tune with the bass.

also funk slap bass is usually rather heavy compressed. to have that 'snappy' impact. and tuned rather high. (and emphasising the mids / highs that is in the bass tone)

I just noticed also that the layered synth makes the bass sound snappier.

The bass synth sound seems to be 2 saw oscillators, one of them slightly detuned, with an envelope controlled LPF so it lets through the wider highs of the bass sound. I think the widening is done with a chorus. The bass line has a lot of anticipations, giving it the groove. On top of that, layer the slap bass samples.

As for getting that super compressed, cute but snappy sound for the whole mix, I have no idea. I think it requires a lot of intricate gating, heavy compression, sidechaining and saturation. Guess I'm not french/japanese enough.

i don't know, i hear one clearly, it is layered with a synth bass, though... but definitely a slap bass sample is there in the 'background'.

I'm not saying I can hear everything that's going on, but even through the compression you can hear how the mix is done completely to make the song groove. I did try doing a quick replication of the song's sound before posting, and that's where my explanation of the bass synth sound comes from, but that synth is just a small part of everything that's going on. I have no idea how to make kicks or snares punch like that and make them work with the bass and higher pitched sounds to create the groove, or even how to make vocals sound like that with everything else going on around. What I'm saying is that one can hear a lot of work and knowledge goes into making music like that.

You're right though dude. It is really heavy in compression. I'm experimenting right now in Reason/Record. And to make it slap like it, it should be compressed heavily. I can make the drums punch like on the video. But I need to work on the combination of my basslines. If you have some combinations already in there, can you share the MIDI file??? Only if you're willing though. Thanks!!! Will keep experimenting...

It's really not that difficult to give a general outline of what a sound consists of when it comes to synthesis. You may not be 100% right but you can easily pick out certain charactoristics if you're experienced. I was listening to something the other day and I said to my wife "that sound right there, thats a sine wave or a self oscillating filter with an envelope generator making the pitch drop quickly, and it's run through a spring reverb" And she just looked at me blankly like she was supposed to understand.
