buy stuff from junk shops and sample it. Trawl the internet for videos of kids playing with toys- extract the audio and make sample libraries. Bit time consuming if you've got a tight deadline but if thats not the case why not? Operator is pretty good at sounding like a cheap chip synth and it's quite a laugh getting it to emulate the behaviour of metal bars.
