Ableton crashes after trying to install Pro Tools on mac
Hi, please help
I have Ableton 7, that i bought about a year and a half ago. I wanted to try out Pro Tools before buying it so i borrowed the mbox package from a friend and tried to install it. Everything was fine up until the point of installing the plug-ins. The ilok wasn't working on a seperate computer (which makes sense but i didn't really know what the situation was at the time.) Then pro tools wouldn't open and kept crashing on the loading screen after trying to install the plug-ins. Eventually i gave up and tried to uninstall pro tools. However to make things worse, now my ableton keeps crashing. On the loading screen for Ableton it now says 'rewire engine' then crashes. I hadn't seen this note before when dealing with Ableton so i can only assume that it has something to do with pro tools. However i've tried uninstalling Ableton and i keep having the same problem.
I'm not particularly good with these things but if anyone has any idea how i can Ableton back up and working i'd really appreciate it. Completely lost about what to do now.
Thanks in advance

Re: Ableton crashes after trying to install Pro Tools on mac
Try searching the OSX Libraries for any remnants of Protools left behind and/or for odd looking files mentioning rewire (remember to use 'system files are included' in the search dropdowns).
Re: Ableton crashes after trying to install Pro Tools on mac
You have most likely installed Celemony's Melodyne software which is distributed with some PT LE bundles. Older versions of Melodyne will install a ReWire engine on your computer which isn't compatible with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and thus crashes all ReWire host applications on launch. Either update Melodyne to the latest version (free download from their website) or alternatively remove all ReWire files of Melodyne from your computer. The FAQ section on the Celemony website has detailed information on where you can find the ReWire files:

Hope this helps.
Best,
Nico

Re: Ableton crashes after trying to install Pro Tools on mac
Which Pro tools are you on? Also what are the Mac specs?
In a K induced Haze (the old K kind not the special K kind ), but an Asian spizz can sometimes bring me out! If ya don't get it, ya never will.
