How do you guys play the bidding game on ebay?

Post by heavensdaw » Tue Mar 16, 2010 5:09 pm

Hi mates, I'm really curious to know what you find to be the best way of bidding on ebay, to both get a bargain price and obviously win the item :D

The two ways I know are placing an early bid with your very maximum amount. And the other is waiting till the very end..

I'm asking this cause I don't seem to have a lot of luck with it! :(

Cheers!

I don't play reindeer games. I look for a seller with a lot of positive ratings that most likely also has a store front and a "buy it now" price that is usually new but lower than if I bought it at a store or online retailer. I pay a little bit more than users snipe bidding but what I get in return is peace of mind.

Also "make an offer" has worked for me as well. The seller usually sets up a predetermined low price that they are willing to go and the system will automatically approve your offer if it's at that price or above, no waiting around for them to think about it.

Of course this all depends on what you're bidding on and if it's available by my above criteria.

with so many sniping programs it's damned hard to sneak in yourself. I was pretty good back in the day :D Especially when I had DSL when most didn't

Now I just look for a Buy It Now that isn't some asshat selling it for the same price I can get at zzounds or whatever. Sometimes I'll bid, but I don't get my hopes up.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

i just watched my items that i wanted, back in the day when i bought stuff, and waited for the last minutes and would just cmmnd + R a lot to refresh the page and just got lucky with my timing at the end and would place it at around 4 seconds left in the bid time. You either get lucky or you dont. Never bought gear tho that is always purchased NEW. Ebay is for junk that i may want.

There's a lot of new gear and music software on ebay that's legit and still sealed in the box. How they get away with such deep discounts I have no idea but I've never had a problem. I've even seen online retailers that you would normally use have ebay accounts that they sell stuff on for a little cheaper. If they have thousands or tens of thousands of positive feedback then it's probably a seller you can trust. On software just make sure it's not the edu version if you don't qualify.

I understand. Over the last couple years I've replaced my former "need it now" attitude with the "no tax, free shipping" attitude. :)

I think I'm gonna have a shot (excuse pun) at this.. 'double whammy' so to speak..

Any particular 'sniping' services I should know of? The most deadly kinda thing..

Last 5 seconds, otherwise you are boosting the price por gusto.
"placing an early bid with your very maximum amount" this is the worst idea ever

I usually look for idiot sellers who don't realize that when they start their auction at 10pm on a Friday night, that it's gonna end a week later, while no one is on the site. Competition is low, making it more advantageous for the buyer.

I use EZSniper, and tell it the max I'll pay, and forget about it.
