Halp! All menu items Grayed out, including save
Halp! All menu items Grayed out, including save
I've been working on this Audio CD for a company today, and suddenly I am unable to click on any menu items, they are all grey and disabled. This includes Quit, and most importantly Save! I haven't saved for a while and it would be a huge waste.
Has anyone ever experienced this before? I'm running os x 10.5.8
Keyboard shortcuts dont work either, I get the "no go" sound.
To top it off, I have a deadline of 1 hour and 45 minutes, thus why posting here and to support.
*could potentially be some noob mac thing I don't know about

weird
something like this happened to me a long time ago, i think...
um, try going into Force Quit (cmd+optn+esc) and Relaunching Finder
hope it works.

Try to hit F9 to bring back to front some dialog box waiting to be clicked..
Re: Halp! All menu items Grayed out, including save
live 8 has a special routine inbuild that forces crashes, strange malfunctions and other trouble only on dense projekt phases like close before a deadline...
its a very intereting fx...seems to build up with the heaviness and intens of use...
very smart programmed in a way.. so the main target ableton consumer with light after work use never gets it..
try to open the file in another version of live.. ups.. live 8 is not backward compatible with Live 8...
Abe design uga uga
repairing permissions as a standard i dont know task.. reinstalling audio drivers..praying?

it is not going to help you, but i am highly frustrated myself, started a remix, worked, worked, and suddenly out of nowhere i lost all my ability to midi or key map, plus cmd + z does not function anymore, send it to support, they say it works perfectly fine on their computers, but well, it does surely not on mine.
i really don't know anymore what to think of this shit.
besides doing the remix which i stupidly started in ableton, i had crashes galore, moving plugins or moving patterns within the arrangement.
what the hell is going on...? i think i slowly but surely start to loose my love for ableton live

8.1.1 under OSX 10.6.2
and please don't give me that check your plugins, when ALL of my plugins work since years trouble free under all my other host applications, not matter which version of a plug i ever used, it is clearly ableton's responsibility to ensure that 3rd party plugs work, especially if others manage that as well... since years.
or if they are not capable, then they should drop VST / AU support completely and make some decent plugs you can work with, themselves.
i slowly had it with ableton live as much as i utterly love the program, but it is unworkable, i have a deadline for the remix.
and to clarify, i don't blame support, and i believe them, they have tried to help! but it is starting to be way beyond funny!

Hey - An update.
I bit the bullet and force quit. It happened again soon after that, so I gave my system a restart and everything went back to normal.
I have a feeling this might have been an issue with os x, it was acting like an alert was in the foreground but there was nothing to click.
I'm one of these people who seem to have good luck with my version of 8, it rarely crashes or does anything strange, however I use very very limited 3rd party stuff.
Thanks to all for the suggestions, and especially to the support crew and their concerns.
(client was happy with end product)

I have a feeling that you're right. Please keep us posted if it continues to happen, your troubleshooting, & hopefully the cause & solution.COSM wrote:I have a feeling this might have been an issue with os x, it was acting like an alert was in the foreground but there was nothing to click.
Personally, I find OS X 10.5.8 to have LOTS of weird little random & highly inconsistent bugs. I am looking forward to upgrading to Snow Leopard, but need an environment that can run both Live 8 & 7.
Glad it turned out OK with the client.

It is likely that Live 7 will also be compatible but we can't promise it before internal tests are finished."

Anyone running Live 7 on Snow Leopard successfully?

I'm on OSX 10.6.3 (Intel MacBook Pro) and this happens to me all the time in Ableton 7.0.18. Large and small projects I haven't found a correlation although it may happen more on larger projects.
I only have a theory that maybe a disk queue is backed up and the undo buffer cannot be written to or something of that nature. But you can still drag and drop and do other mouse based operations.
This is really frustrating.. any solutions?

I find minimising then maximising fixes this
I tend to get this at start up.
