dj mixing

Post by defunkt » Mon Mar 28, 2005 8:59 am

i have not used live for djing yet as i own traktor.how do you mix with live.can you do long smooth mixes or is it better to do quick chops with the crossfader to prevent beats going out of sync.the thing is if live is a better djing app than traktor i will switch coz i am getting a bit pissed with the traktor thing.

If your tracks are prepared (i.e. "warped") properly, they won't go out of sync so you can take as long as you like.

I have a Live DJ template set up (with an illustrated key map) that uses the QWERTY keyboard for triggering...

PM me and I will email it out PRONTO

Peace

so uh... yeah... how do you DJ with this? LOL I dont know how to work this program much tho i've been using the starting tutorials... the only DJing I've actually been able to get my hands on has been good old vinyls on 2 turntables with a mixer so any technical stuff specific to computers i dunno much about... hell i just learned how to make a midi track work >.> i think.... <.<....

Follow this link. It'll take you to a page that has templates you can download. The Dj template includes a tutorial that opens in Live when you open this template.

Traktor is an awful program for serious mixing. There'll never be another skipped beat again if you warp your tracks correctly.

I made a 15 minute kick loop in Fruity then just warp all my tunes around that so they're all the same.

Throw Craptor in the bin my friend

Yeah, but how quickly can you search for and drop tunes on the fly? I use Live for performance sets using pre-prepared material and when I'm jamming with other musicians. But I use TRaktor when I'm DJing proper and when I need to respond quickly to the crowd. This is partly because Traktor allows different compressed audio sources and partly because it has a damn quick search facility. I'd prefer to do it all with Live but I find Traktor quicker for straight DJing (at the moment). Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

why?
how do you mean the same?
whats wrong with the metronome if you need an audible guide.
if not, then when warped all tracks will be the same (set to the tempo).
no idea why you need to make that loop :?

I find it easier to warp the tracks visually instead of using my ear. Well, I do use my ear to find out the bits that are slipping out but I warp them visually.

It works for me !
