Using APC40 if you don't trigger clips

Post by distaudio » Thu Mar 18, 2010 9:06 am

Hi all,

I really love the layout and intergration with Live of the APC40.

But....

I don't trigger clips or scenes. I use it in a linear fashion for recording.
So basically the clip trigger pads on the APC40 in their exsisting state are useless.

I was wondering whether there has been anything developed for the APC40 that would turn the trigger pads into chromatic scale or would be able to assign the pads to midi assignment in Live. (ie turning devices on and off, engadging fx)

I would also like to be able to use the APC40 pads to fire samples in Sampler as It would come in handy when I eventually play my music at gigs.

If there are any other alternatives that anyone else can think of for someone in this situation please let me know.

Thanks .

Thanks.

The chord feature doesn't really interest me that much.

My main desire is being able to use midi mapping with the trigger pads.

Then select the APC40 as a standard midi device in preferences and you can hard map the pads to anything you'd like, this then loses the clip launch functionlity but as you dont need it thats all good....

Go for monomulator then!

It keeps apc function
+ monome function
+ midi keyboard function [thus you will like]
+ slider function [acting as faders]

Even if you don't plan to use monome apps, it's a must have imo

If I were to change the APC40 to a standard midi device in preferences does that not mean that the faders and knobs would lose their normal functionality. As I really only want to change the function of the pads, nothing else.

Thanks

you can have it as both. You only loose functionality of the pads/encoders/sliders that you actually do assign.

The monome stuff is cool in the videos but i heard it is too difficult to setup.

Well you heard but it's not true!
Once it's been set up, it's good to go.

IAC bus for mac and MidiYoke for pc, runs like a charm.
Seriously, take the time for setting up and it's all good.
It gives you so much more than the apc40 while keeping default behavior.
Once you catch the joy, you'll never use anymore apc40 without it!

I do not preach but I admit being already converted
