Korg padKontrol and Ableton 8.1 notes misaligned

Post by gstockton » Sun Dec 20, 2009 7:41 pm

I have been trying to use my Korg padKontrol with Session Drums but am encountering a lot of trouble. I am now running Windows 7 and Ableton 8.1. My KORG session is set to the default S.01, which should render a standard layout C3 in lower left squeare, however, when I hit this pad, in Ableton it corresponds to teh upper left pad. I can drag the scale region up in alignment, however, none of the hits correponds to the kits. I am wondering if I have perhaps missed a step. I should be able to drag a kit to a track, and see that the Kick corresponds to the right pad without having to manually set things up. Has anyone else encountered this? I would appreciate help.

Also, is anyone else having trouble running Ableton Live as a Rewire slave to ProTools? Seems this is not supported when running Windows 7.

The PadKontrol isn't aligned you're right.

I believe C2 on the padkontrol is C1 in Live..

Sorry but this was no help.

I have my padKontrol connected via USB. I am running Windows 7. I am unsure if the KORG software supports windows 7.

Here are the instructions from the KORG software ReadMe file.

“padKONTROL Editor Librarian for Windows” - Version 1.01

< SETTING THE PORTS>
In order to send and receive Scenes between the padKONTROL and a PC, you will need to set the padKONTROL Editor Librarian’s MIDI ports.

1. Start the padKONTROL Editor Librarian software and select ‘MIDI’ - ‘Preferences...’ from the menu to open the settings dialog window.

OK, I CAN GET THIS PART

2. Set ‘padKONTROL 1 PORT A’ to MIDI In, and set ‘padKONTROL 1 CTRL’ to MIDI Out.
(The device names may vary depending on the connected equipment.)

>>>MY CHOICES ARE
>>>padKONTROL
>>>MIDIIN2 (padKontrol)
>>>MIDIIN3 (padKontrol)

NO PORT A IS LISTED

>>>So, I selected padKontrol for MIDI IN

3. Click the ‘OK’ button to close the settings dialog window.

>>>I DO THIS (However, it does not tell you what you should do with MIDI OUT in Prefs.

If the padKONTROL is not displayed, please make sure that:

-the KORG USB-MIDI driver is installed; (CORRECT IT IS INSTALLED)
-the padKONTROL is recognized in the ‘Sound and Audio Device’ window of the computer’s control panel. (IT IS LISTED IN DEVICE MANAGER)

I selected Transmit Scene Set from the MIDI menu and get the following Error.

"TRANSMIT SCENE SET FAILED, MIDI DEVICE IS NOT SPECIFIED"

NOW WHAT?

Might be defective.

Not much help but I would think that's a possibility..

You could try reinstalling the driver (again) then restarting. I did this several times I think. At some point something clicked..

Or it's a Windows 7 issue. Are you able to run the app in the XP mode that Windows 7 offers?

I've just had this exact problem. I'm trying to work out what's wrong, it was working yesterday, but now I've lost the "port A" option.

I've just fixed it by using a different USB socket on my computer, port A is now recognised.

I was trying to work out what I had changed to make it stop working, then I remembered I had changed it to use a more "out of the way" usb port at the back of my pc. Weird. Anyone know why one USB socket would work better than another?

EDIT: Actually I tell a lie it's still not working. The port came up but I still can't transmit the scene from editor librarian...

I know this is old, but I just bought the pK and am having this issue (3 years later). I have no "Port A" option in Midi In in Editor Librarian. I could really use some help.....
