Keys

Post by snafsnaf » Fri Mar 19, 2010 11:02 pm

Hi all,

If i get all my samples together for a new track, and press 'a' to play them with midi, would the samples then be in the same key?

Cheers

If I'm understanding what you're trying to do correctly, use clip transpose to transpose all of the clips into the same key.

wow. seriously?

Just because you play the samples from the same key on your keyboard doesn't mean they'll be in tune, unless they are all in the same key to begin with.

And bear in mind that this is not the best way to do it... Better is to load them into a sampler (e.g. Sampler) and transpose them there. Does a better job than clip transpose.

I need to be able to set them to the same key, so the sampler option sounds best.

So can i use the sampler to set the same key, or do i need to match them myself???

You need to match them yourself.. Adjust the RootKey parameter of Sampler for each sample to the key each sample is in.

I can't match them myself as i'm not that experienced.

Is there even a way of setting my samples to match key?

they're starting to sound unusable.

No none of them are named with notes, just names like 'technoblip'.

So i take it i can't produce with samples unles you already know the key?

"use the Force Luke."

trust your ears, relax and let the music flow. just do it, if it sounds good to you you're on the right track. if it doesn't, try something else. if you spend too much time wrestling with them, delete them or hide them somewhere until you're ready to try again.
