How best to organize and save sessions?

I've returned to working with samples after a few years where I just used mostly live instrumentation. I'm noticing I'm incredibly disorganize and have failed to save my sessions properly. Is there a way I can consolidate all the samples associated with the song into one file so that I can just open up the session and have all the files I threw in that are scattered around my comp? My disorganization is getting out of control. lol.

save the set into a new project folder, and then manage that new project. you can pull all the samples in there at that point.

you have a choice of pulling in library samples or not.

e.g. if you used the EIC grand piano, you might not want to copy those several gigabytes of samples into your project folder.

Thanks for your response So far I have three particular songs saved as als files in one folder. Is there an option in the file tab that says save as "new project folder." Or do you mean to actually create a folder and save everything into that folder.You'll excuse me I'm kind of dense..

you can either create a project folder and the save there, or just save somewhere outside of any existing project, and one will be created automatically

Your recorded audio clips, or samples you have dropped into clips, might show up with miss leading names in the project folder, after you collect and save. (Typically: 0001 17-Audio, 0002 18-Audio, etc.)

Tip: rename the clips and consolidate them before you "manage project, and collect and save".

All your files will then be tidy collected and properly named in your project folder. Replaced files will automatically be deleted. You have to chose to delete unused files in "manage project"


In the project folder, there's a folder named Samples. Here you'll find 4 folders:
1. Imported
2. Processed
3. Recorded
4. Waveforms

Theres also sub folders inside them. I haven't got time to explain it all in detail right now. But basically audio files move around here, as you work with your project. If you rename and consolidate your audio clips, then "manage project" and delete unused files, things will be a lot more tidy in here. Look it up in the manual for details concerning these folders. The sooner you get this, the better.

All used audio files in samplers, clips, etc that you are not 100% shore will always stay at the original location for a long time, should be collected into the project!

I think it is weird how to create a project folder. I keep forgetting how to do it. I think its right clicking on the folder up arrow or something. Live should make it easier on us someday I hope
