How can I permanently map Macro Controls

Post by fwhenin » Mon Mar 22, 2010 4:34 pm

All right, So I enjoy going through all the instrument rack presets and messing with the 8 macro controls...I have 8 knobs on my MIDI keyboard that i'd like to use so all i have to do is load in another instrument rack (in replace of the one I had before) and start messing with the knobs right off the bat (instead of going back and MIDI mapping again, but I end up using the mouse anyway and that could get frustrating).....Is that even possible?

Hi
look for the hot swap button on the top bar of the instrument rack, should do the trick. you can also lock your axiom to a specific rack if you require.

so if I MIDI map the macro controls and then hotswap the instrument rack, the MIDI mapping will stay the same

I have the same controller :) :) I would download "M-Audio Axiom Tutorial" found under "Using Live 6 with Third Party Products" of this page and read the included lesson:

The other thing you can look into is User Remote Scripts. That also allows you to use the Control Surface features. But overall, the lesson above offers more powerful features (although upside down??)

this is on the right track

basically, if you have your midi controller enabled as a control surface, (either via a factory script or your own user script if your device is not natively supported), then you can use the "blue hand" (will appear on any selected device) to control parameters

on a rack you'll have automatic mapping of the 8 macros, so long as the rack is selected (or locked to that controller via context menu)

i think you should be able to set up an instrument rack with your mapping in an otherwise blank session and then save that as your default template under preferences/file/save current set as default.

set up the controller as a control surface. If the controller isn't in the drop down list you will need to write a user configuration script- which is pretty simple. Then the eight macros will always be controlled - so long as the blue hand icon is present. Midi mapping macros is alright but limiting if you have multiple racks to control. Join the blue hand gang!
