Midi Sequencing - What am I missing out on not owning Logic?

Logic & Live together really create the ultimate studio setup. Live is fantastic for time stretching and making fast arrangements or jamming. I even use Live as my main audio editor, its quick easy and more flexible than Peak or Audacity or any other audio editor. Final projects for me get bounced into Logic. Better automation (with curves), better in the box reverb's, synth's & FX. Logic is the opposite of Live in regards to workflow. It takes a while to get used to but once you have that A-Ha moment - you can't really go back to using any other tool. Live is a great sequencer for Logic's synths. Connect them up via IAC (Mac) or use a midi interface (on Windows) and use Lives external instrument rack and you got a killer setup for working on tracks fast!

I'm not saying one app is better than the other I'm just saying there is a strong case to use both together if you own them.

i am really thinking of getting Logic Studio 9.i love all those plugins,fx etc.
Live's sessionview makes recording all that Logic stuff more fun.
for me an absolute KILLER combo,the best of both worlds.

Logic's midi sounds far better than Live's.

sad but true.. logics midi events are actually placed where the have occured and not at a phantasy position that sometimes is correct and oter times is 20 ms off..

so for people that play the keyboard without doing the hard 16th quantize lives midi is recording wise actually close to unusable..


other big advantage is the flexible midi thru handling.. almost latency free as it should be.. so with logic you can run a large playback buffer for the audio while still be able to adress midi thru instruments in real time.. as many as you wish via remote events as you wish...

than you have the recovery of recordings.. means when you decide after a run that you actually would have liked to record.. just press the magic keys and you have recorded it..

so regarding the midi side of the thing there is not much to discuss..


however.. logic is no pattern based sequencer..especially on midi stuff that has other big advantages for getting ideas together or trying certain midi tricks ..

so when it comes to the question patternbased or just timeline sequencer live allways wins..

all other main daw´s are just timeline based.
