Midi Map/ Key Map issue Live 8

Post by Halycon » Sat Mar 27, 2010 2:51 pm

Hello friends of Ableton again. I turn to you for guidance and wisdom concerning a MAJOR issue with Live that I've been having, and was curious if anyone else has had the same issue. Anytime I engage the Midi Map, or Key Map editor, and then select any control of a device to it, it removes one of my navigation buttons in the left hand corner (Live Presets folder, VST's folder, 1,2,3, location folders, etc). Example would be lets say that i want to control the frequency of Analog filter on/off by assigning it to Key control "L", then one of the navigation buttons will disappear. Then again, lets say i want to control the Resonance of that same filter, so i assign it too midi control 1/24, another navigation button will fall off. I can only assign up to 5-6 parameters before they all disappear, and then live crashes with "A serious program error has occured, live will shut down after this message box is closed".

Now if i save my work before that happens, I can reopen the spreadsheet and the controls will still be the way i had them, while the navigation buttoms will be back, as long as i dont touch the midi/key mappers. The downside to this is that I am unable to change the 'Range' preferences for the midi/key mappings PERIOD, b/c the second i touch "edit midi map" it starts to remove the navigation icons.

This is beyond frustrating, and holding me back from accomplishing any real work. Is anyone else having this issue, or aware of it?

I have a Labtop running the same exact program, and it does NOT have that issue. The only difference between that, and my workstation is that I have a Axiom Pro 49 keyboard hooked up to it, but i even disengaged the Axiom Pro from the preferences, so that shouldnt be effecting it, should it?

Both are running hte same operating system, Windows XP Home, with pretty much the same software from one to the next. I've uninstalled, and reinstalled, and still nothing. Thanks for teh support and help guys, its always appreciated. Save this poor old man from losing anymore hair! :)

Hi Halycon,

that sounds very strange. Which exact version of Live 8 do you use? You can find the latest installer here:
www.ableton.com/latest_versions

If you should be already using Live 8.1.1, please try resetting Live by deleting preferences.cfg:

- select "get support" from the help menu
- in help view, click "show the preferences folder"
- close Live
- delete "preferences.cfg" from the preferences folder
- start Live
- does the problem still persist?

Best,
Jörg

Jok,

I am running the latest version of 8.1.1. Additionally, i can now no longer pull up my 'help view' panel, nor can does the "get support" work. Weird. On previous versions of Live i was able to go into the folder content and delete that, but for some reason i cant seem to find that folder anymore.

Do you have a direct file path that i could try copying and pasting? I run Windows XP Home, and did not change the factory installtion location. Thanks again for the response, its much appreciated!

Jok, i retract that last post. I was able to find it in the Application Data, and was able to remove the preferences. Once i did that, and rebooted, I now have a working enviroment, free of the issue i mentioned above. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!! Where can i send your Christmas present this year?? :)
