Back when I was in a band we were going to record in this studio where the owner/engineer had the choice of producing our record or this album by a then unknown Third Eye Blind. One could say he made the right choice but here I am years later struggling to churn out trite little tunes with no inspiration, no hordes of pussy, and no phat loot...or memories of such times. No no. We went into the studio and the guy said "I'd schedule you guys but I'm waiting to hear back about this Third Eye Blind band that has some little record deal." So here we are now. How many hits came off that album, like 3 or 4? I've got no hits.

We actually knew the guy from our bands playing together back in the day. At one point his band got signed and the label gave them something like $100,000 to record an album, but being forward thinking instead of tossing all that money at a studio they used the money to buy all their own recording equipment, learn the craft, and produce the album themselves. The album was great but didn't have the type music that would lead to better things. So he went on to just produce bands with the gear they purchased from their record deal...Third Eye Blind being one of them, and I think possibly Smash Mouth to name another band you would know.

Unfortunately when he flagged us for Third Eye Blind we went to his former bandmate's studio in a shit part of Oakland and the dude turned out to be a big tweaker and several times a session he would go "Be right back!", grab a baseball bat, and run outside to threaten a crack head that was casing the place. Needless to say no album got finished. Good times.
