Resetting presets
Resetting presets
Apologies if this is a stupid question:
Can anyone tell me if there is a simple one-step way of resetting instrument or effects settings to their preset?
To put this in some context:
I'm using Live for live performance using an APC40 and an MPK49 as controllers. I'm doing a lot of tweaking of instrument and effects parameters with the MPK40 (mainly manipulating instruments and effects, macro knobs etc. that are held in Drum Racks). After tweaking parameters (filters, resonances, volumes etc) I'd ideally like to return the parameters to their original preset position for that device with one hit of a pad or button on the MPK49. Is this possible?
Thanks.

Re: Resetting presets
Ok without a 3rd party piece of software like bomes or max4live, you'll need a controller that you can change it's midi outputs with an editor (i use the korg nanokontrol)
What you do is first map every control you want to reset and make a note of the midi note and cc you want the control to reset to....
Then draw a midi clip that has the value (velocity) and midi notes of the controls you've mapped....
In this midi channel you need to set the output so that it goes out of Ableton, on a mac this is a simple matter of setting up an IAC Driver so that the midi can be sent out of Ableton and then received back in as if it was an external controller sending the data.
Then you'd simply map the midi clip to a button on your controller and with one push the clip is launched, the midi is sent out and received back into ableton resetting the control to the programmed value....
Cheers

Re: Resetting presets
ShelLuser & S4racen - thanks very much for your suggestions - much appreciated.
I think I'll experiment with ShelLuser's idea of simply setting up either additional chains or tracks containing fresh/untweaked settings of the same devices.
Cheers.

Re: Resetting presets
if you make a dummy clip with all parameters in the "original" position...
then by firing that clip you can reset with one midi message.
edit: haha, yeah what s4racen said ^^^^^

Re: Resetting presets
Ah, got it! Thanks longjohns & others.
Re: Resetting presets
It's not possible to assign two different Controller to one parameter, but you can assign a controller and Key to the same parameter
Re: Resetting presets
i like where you're going with that one ^
