Re: is using loop cds and presets cheating?
Preset tweaking is ok, using loops is not. Just my 2 cents. If it's not your creation, what's the point? More importantly, you'll never get better. Experimentation is how magic happens and i think learning about music helps you grow as a person. Learning one tiny thing will combine with a bunch of other tiny things to make a great track a year from now. If all we concentate on is the (short term) result, we're not getting all that much out of music.
At the same time, it's important to have fun so atleast play around with editing the loops and keep working on your craft. Rome wasn't built in a day. Express yourself.

Personally i only use loops occasionally to garnish my tomato soup....um..(stop it)..and when i do i mangle and edit them. They don't start off as my creation but by the time i'm finished with them they most definitely are

You should be banned from the forum for even asking this question. Loops and samples are not done so go uninstall the libary now.

I use whatever I need to make my music, loops, presets, orginal sounds, found sounds, things friends make for me, everything. There's no right way to make music.
There is however a right way to impress other struggling musicians who are just waiting for a chance to put down your methods in order to make themselves look more important. Using loops is apprently not that way.

Not buying that last part. I use whatever I need to make music also, I just don't use other people's loops. I do however use Tarekith's DJ/effects racksTarekith wrote:I use whatever I need to make my music, loops, presets, orginal sounds, found sounds, things friends make for me, everything. Re: is using loop cds and presets cheating?
thanks for all the nice answers. now i don't feel so bad when using other peoples sounds
but nevertheless decided to go all DIY productionwise, even if it means no sounding as fat, but it makes me feel better, and thats what its about. i started to do fieldrecording recently (see my post), so there should be no shortage of sonic source material, and as an additional positive effect, deleting all those samples that gathered up on my harddrive all this time but i never used, gave me lots of free space. so no need for a new drive
