Ok.
I've spent hours and hours trying to figure out how to get my Live 8 Suite working again after installing Windows 7.
My trials and tribulations
First, there were several packages that couldn't be installed for some sort of awkward reason, such as Latin Percussion. Managed to fix this after numerous installs and reinstalls.
Now, there are file references that are fucked. Trying to find the files manually, since the automatic search in Ableton is so slow that at times, I wondered if it was actually doing anything - and when it managed to get done, it hadn't found anything.
Now, I'm learning that there's an Impulse instrument that uses samples with names that sound conspicuously like they were named by Ableton and not me, yet I cannot find the files anywhere. I've installed the full Suite and Latin Percussion and Drum Machines on the side, as well as some of the other bits from the Ableton site - Sound Objects Lite and Live 7 Legacy, to be specific - just to be safe. To no avail.
How can I avoid this in the future?
How the hell do I insure myself against this happening ever again? I've been wanting to play with my sets for weeks, now, and I've been unable to, because I've been stopped by the software every time, telling me that I'm missing loads of references. Do I really have to Collect and Save EVERY SINGLE THING on EVERY SINGLE SET? That'd take up loads of gigabytes in no time!
Does anyone have a smart way of keeping your files (and file references) intact, in such a way that your system can easily be backed up and reinstated after an event where you'd have to format your computer? I dread the day that some stupid Windows 7 error (or something else) forces me to format C:... If I have to go through all of this crap again, I'm wondering if I'll even bother.

Re: Ableton Live 8 Suite file security
I'll be sure to keep a copy of the Live Library updated from now on.
Lucky I'm not short on extra disks and gigabytes... =)
