iTunes Alternative?

Post by BoxDJ » Mon Mar 29, 2010 1:56 am

I hate using iTunes to organize my music. Plus it lags my computer a little. Any good alternatives?

I love iTunes. It's fantastic. Good luck on your quest.

Are you on mac or pc? I've had good luck with Songbird. The new Windows media player is actually quite good as well. Then again, I used to hate itunes and I recently tried it again and it is much better. I didn't like winamp very much.

I'm on XP... I use iTunes ONLY to sync my iphone. that's it. Otherwise, it's horrible software.

For music, I use Foobar. For movies, I use VLC. Both are way way better than anything else out there, and both are opensource/free.

Foobar has a blazingly fast library, search, and tagging functions. VLC plays everything, and comes with all codecs. Great software.

The absolutely love foobar2000.

It's a great media player straight out of the box. It's also a world class lesson in designing easy for the user to customise software. When you realise you want it to do something extra you go and find and install it. So it never gets bigger than you really need and you always understand how it works. Web site is great as well. Highly recommended.

+1 on foobar2000, Itunes is simply horrible on pc, I can only assume there must be something wildly different about it on Mac.

"media monkey" gets a lot of praise all around, like it is the best of them all. Never tried it though. Report if you try and like it plz.
