GENELEC 6010 - thinking about a purchase, opinions please

I'm also thinking of 6010's, but can't decide.. I could afford 8020's after the summer but i'm too impatient + me and my ears are starting to get very tired of headphones.

Or just get some crappier speakers (like fostex pm.04) for now and get bigger genelecs in the future.. Too many options

as main moniors they are to small.. try to buy something second hand..for bargain rates so you can resell it without much loss when the time for bigger genelecs is there.. if you still need them than..


if you can get from somwhere an high quality amplefier second hand passiv speakers might be a bargain choice.. but the amp needs to be something highend like..

buts surprising what sometimes flys around in family garages.. once found a harman cardom citation 16. a very good amp

I have them, plus Mackie 824s.

I think the Genelecs are sh*t.

Crap bottom end and very hyped upper mid / tops (

I moved and knackered my mackies (popped a cone) and had to get them reconed by surrey amps.

Anyway all the work i did using the genelecs was awful on anything else.

Have learned now that you can use them by a/b ing a lot but i think they are basically computer speakers.

However,

a few points.

they are small and portable and I would imagine better sounding than most other speakers in that size price range.

Even despite being sharp / hyped top end I find they have a lack of detail however if you do a lot of a/b ing then you can get something out of them. I'll still use em as my travel rig as i dont have anything else but i now use them to just do rough balances and to work on rather than to mix on. . . .

they are clearly not studio monitors, they are tiny, tiny, PC speakers, for the size and price good.

the 8020s are certainly a jump up.

So buy 6010s and buy twice? Even if i could get 5040 sub later? Btw is there any bypass switch/option in 5040?
I have passive behringer truths in my living room so i can have some reference from them. They are connected to a 70's Sansui "hi-fi" amp though...

5040 is almost deco only, what it adds can hardly hear. That was the most difficult setting it for my buddy. He didnt care about the price though, he never buys anything - his girls do (He is not real pimp, just DJ/Player). Definitely waste of money. If there is useless, rubbish product of Genelec, it is 5040.

Yea. I listened to 6010 + 5040 set at local "computer supermarket" and 5040 produced quite nice low end. I didn't figure out how to bypass the sub, so i werent able to listen the 6010s on their own. And they had some heavy metal playing from the set so i got annoyed quickly and left the spot

No, I mean it is as "good" as any 20-50$ subwoofer you get with computer speakers. Anyway it is my opinion , your money-go and buy it, be happy.
