Massive is wicked for bass
your obviously doing something wrong...
Keep playing

Trying layering different sounds together.
Try creating a mid-rangey sound (250hz - 1000hz range) and high pass filter it, then layer a pure sine wave bass line - playing the same (or notes that compliment).

post something you have done, post something you like etc.

bit hard to tyell otherwise.

Some general points though, make sure your bass and kick aren't occupying the same frequency areas, if they are notch a db or 2 out of the findamental in one of them so that they sit otgether better.

Your bass might well be being masked by low end stuff from other sounds in your mix, hi pass other stuff, don't do this indiscriminately.

get some tutorials on mixing, buy mixing with your mind by stav, read, practice etc.

There is no reason why you can't get good sounding stuff with any of the vst's these days. . .
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.
