Live running Audio & Visuals 'Live' -Tips, Probs, Questions
A thread on running a Live Set with Audio and Visuals from a single laptop
I know there has been some good threads on this topic and I have found a couple.
This one has a few different users setups
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... v#p1011237
There has been much discussion on codecs and Photo-Jpeg seems to be the choice for it's low CPU tax.
Has anyone had any problems with this?
Anything to look out for with for new users?

yeah....i've been dabbling with this.
i run Live and Resolume 3 on a single unibody macbook pro 17" 2.93. control is via a monome 40h running monogrid 2 under chuck and faderfoxes dj2, lv2 and ld2. i have a 6 x 4 control clip matrix section for resolume grouped (so it can be collapsed and hidden) in Live. this is mapped to one of the grids on the monome....and then two buttons for each of the four layers to select the layer or stop clips. then a bunch of buttons for the four fx per layer i have mapped.
i started off using the photo jpg codec at 75% quality but am planning to convert to the dxv codec that the Resolume guys developed. it allows you to play several layers of HD simulataneously from a reasonably specced machine.
warning: it's seriously addictive.....and you can get very deep and freaky with Live controlling all the automation. as with all templates, spend a good deal of time working out on paper what sort of control you want to have going from Live....then roll up your sleeves and get building and mapping.....and if you are in full time employment and intend to create your own clips using motion or after fx then i would strongly consider taking a sabbatical and heading off to a cabin in wisconsin or some other remote place where the mess you're going to make when you're head explodes isn't going to bother anyone too much.....
here's a link to something i did a while back

Wow that's far more complicated than I will attempt straight up!
I just want a video to play for every new scene in my set, I guess I'm not going to have many issues with this humble plan considering how advanced some people are taking this. It's good (and a touch scary) to know just how far down the rabbit hole goes!!
Awesome

Have you got a VJ soft already? If not, you might try starting with something like Cell...

what i do is a lil bit odd but easy. its basically something to tie me over until jam2 comes out.
i trigger video with the midi locators, with the video warped in arrangement view. i then map them to a midi controller (launch pad is my weapon of choice).
after that i create a 8 midi tracks in (session) set the same key that the midi locator key is, then map that to the launch pad. this will allow me to name the clips of my videos and trigger them from session view.
i noticed with the launch pad i can only trigger clips with user 1 and user 2
for beat repeating i set 1 knob length and an other to start.
for video it seems .mov works best for me

what about quartz composer or isodora?
these seem like good choices... but I want someone to spell it out for me
