Shout out to a musical genious: Kilowatts

Post by Android Bishop » Mon May 11, 2009 4:52 pm

Today I'm going to waste my time (and everyone else's) to throw some shout outs to a producer I'm coming to respect more and more as I listen to his stuff more and more. This guy transcends genres, he's got his own thing going on. His production is some of the most intricate, clean, and musically intriguing and enjoyable I've ever heard. I always liked his stuff, but it wasn't until recently that I listened closely enough to realize that this guy is fucking BRILLIANT. His sound design and musical ideas are amazing, and his style is very versatile. His mastery of movement and timing is extremely impressive. He has gone down as one of the all time greats in my book, a spot I reserve for people who transcend above the rest and distinguish themselves as masters of musical ideas that are timeless.

This man is Kilowatts

My favorite albums (ones I'm basing this opinion on):

Ground State
Routes
Uprouted

He's got lots of others I haven't explored yet, and some crap too (everyone has their crap), so it might or might not be worth checking out his other stuff.

uprouted huh? haven't heard that. You're right, he's good, and his production is very clear.

you might be interested to see this, about a new Automap beta, which says
fixed issue with VST parameter control in Ableton Live 8
... if 8.0.2 didn't solve your problems.

I think 8.0.2 did solve this problem, however I'm installing the new Automap beta right now to see if they fixed another MAJOR problem I've had where my SL occasionally lags midi notes. I'll be playing something out and all of a sudden this one note or two here and there will come out kinda late and fuck up the flow. The support dude said he was able to reproduce the problem but I never heard anything else about it and I dont see it in the list of bug fixes.

And yeah, check out uprouted. its good.

well, sometimes bugs like that get fixed and not mentioned, and sometimes they just get forgotten. Automap 3 seemed a little beta to me, and on first glance this update seems more finished.

I'm absolutely agree with your opinion about this great producer.
I've just discovered it and I would like to know some about his studio gear, soft, tech gear...

He is a member of other projects with other names, like Voodoux or KiloWatts & Vanek.

Good stuff!

He just released another album with some mc under the name Super Galactic Expansive (album: Supersensible Science). Hes touring the US right now, go see if hes playing near you.

anyway yeah, every time I listen to this guy's stuff the more and more I recognize him as an absolute genius. He gets no cred though, which is sad

i really like the bils more urban dirty vibe mixed in with kilowatts more ethereal vibes...hopefully they work more together and put out more stuff in the future....
