Studio monitor advice

Hello all,
looking for your insight and expereince to help me form a concise and clear path forward.

I am in the process of upgrading my monitors and audio interface.
Interface wise i am pretty clear on going for an allen heath zed r 16 http://www.allen-heath.com/zed/zed-R16.asp. So that part of the picture is pretty clear although i,m open to alternatives

The part i,m really trying to get clearer is my studio monitoring setup.
At the moment i am using krk rp 5,s which are greta but are underpowered for my room.

So i was thinking about Krk vxt 6 or vxt 8's.
i was also thinking about buying a krk ergo box to help with the room
And also a krk sub.
set of Yamaha NS 10's for reference
In short i need a high level of proffesional monitoring for our work

So i also conatcted an acousric engineer about treating the room.
Pricey but after speaking with 2 other recording specialists and a third if you including the acoustic engineer they say that the Krk ergo box and other like it and not the best soloution and treating the room is the best way forward. The acoustic engineer also said if the room is treated then there should be no rela need for ther NS 10,s Your thoughts ?

Secondly in terms of monitors i am also being advised to consider Genelec 8030 and the acompanying sub.

So there is alot to consider hear and i want make the right choices. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Def get better monitors if your going to go with a decent frontend. ( The allen and heath ) Can i ask why you are going with this mixer? Do you need this amount of i/o? I say spend as much as you can on monitors and maybe get 2 pairs ( yamaha ns10's are always classic and sound great ) What turned you onto the rokits, i cant stand them they are to "false" for me. Whats your price range?

I love my A7's ... They are very open and don't do you any favors when mixing.. in as they tell like it is.. I've never worked for extended periods with the RP rokits but I can safely say that there is a world of difference between those two options.. YMMV..

I really love the ZED R16... In fact I was watching the video on the A&H website today.. Coz I saw an R16 for sale secondhand. PM me if you're interested dude! I completely understand why you want one.. they are fooking brilliant desks!

I,m thinking asbout adams a 7,s and a pair of genelecs 8030's ( two sets). There is very excelelnt chance i will have to mix in 7.1 shortly and i kn ow with Genelecs that after adding the sub i can add upto a 5.1 with additionaL 8020'S and incorporate another pair to go to 7.1 fort a new museum wee are in the running for composong for. We need the adams as we doo record releas's as well. We also do scoring for iphone apps etc etc and other digital media.
With the zed 16 yes wwe will need this amount of in and out aS WE HAVE TWO LIVE ROOMS AND A HOST OF OUTBOARD INSTRUMETAION AND FX AS WELL . there is ahost of gretfeatures in this desk for us nand it is also a interface to boot

£900 for monitors but may go £1200 for two pairs i can get A7 s for £575 and opt for some 2nd genelecs 8030's and if we get the 7.1 gig £1500 for the sub and oither 5 speakers

No-one can say Gennies aren't good, but do you have the budget for them is the question ?

You already know how to mix on KRK's so although the VXT8 is a great monitor and more detailed then an RP5 it should be easier to translate your mixes done on the RP5 with the upgraded KRK's as opposed to Genelecs or Adam A7's etc, which are all fine monitors too.

As always - try and find a place where you can compare this stuff with your own music and see which fits you the best. Everyone on an internet forum is going to recommend you the monitors they own themselves personally - a few more objective types may point out some alternative. I own KRKS in my home studio because for bang for buck I liked them the best.

However, I've worked in studios with Genelecs, Adam, JBL, Tannoy, Focal, PMC and various others. They all have positive things about them. I really like PMC and the Digidesign RM2s which they designed, Focal and Genelecs in about that order if you have the budget - the new Event Opal are getting many rave reviews too in the high end studio forums. Otherwise, Adam A7s, KRK VXT8s, Yamaha HS8os, Mackie HR824s etc all are decent sounding monitors and only you can decide which suit you best. And don't let peer pressure influence you - if you genuinely don't like the sound of one speaker, even if it's the hippest thing around, then have the courage to walk on by.

As for audio interfaces - yes, if you can afford $4500 for a Prism Orpheus or $5500 for a Metric Halo ULN-8 then by all means go ahead and buy them. Otherwise, RME, MOTU, Echo audio, Presonus etc will still do you a very good job for the money. Even the M-Audio Profire 2626 is a good device.

SO pair of 8030's picked up. And i,m also thinking about some Adam A7's as alternative listening for more dance oreintated work.
Will be looking for a Genelec matching Sub for 8030's in next few weeks.
Also be working Genelec system upto 7.1 once i get the ok for the surround project. Will add either 4x 8010's or 2 8020's and a pair of 8010's
