Yeah, Melbourne's not bad if you're into:

b/ best food in the country
c/ best coffee in the country
d/ paying half the rent than you would in Sydney for equivalent dwelling
e/ the only state that had a majority vote in favour of Oz becoming a republic.
f/ F1 Grand Prix, VFA Grand Final, Boxing Day Test.
g/ Heaps of parks and gardens all over town
i/ etc.

depends which part of Melbourne you live in and what you consider to be crime???what's the crime like?
You heard that too? I'm relocating there in June, so I will be sorely disappointed if these rumours turn out to be unfounded.forge wrote:the picture we're getting of Melbourne by now is of some utopian paradise where the streets are gold and your free beer is brought to you by bikini clad concubines.

well, if you count corporate or government crime, Jeff Kennett probably committed enough to last a good few decades.....Komplex wrote:depends which part of Melbourne you live in and what you consider to be crime???what's the crime like?

Don't forget it was a penal colony.... As an expat I had a laugh when I first went back to Melbourne in 86...sweetjesus wrote:beateater wrote: what's the crime like?
Customs agent: Do you have a criminal record?
Me: No. Why? Do you still need a one to get in?
Customs agent: Laffs...

Except these days it works the other way - in Britain almost everyone I knew was involved in some kind of criminal activity, whereas in OZ you dont generally have to any more because you can actually afford to live AND do stuff as well!
Although I'm not sure I'd want to test the ZZ Top Bearded freaks of Brisbane on that little hypothesis.

I'm from Melbourne, but I currently live in Holland. I get back to Melbourne once a year to enjoy the food, space, clean air and water and SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!
I"ve been to Sydney on numerous occassions, but give me Melbourne any day!!!!
The only thing I hate about OZ is that music gear costs far more than what I can get it for over here in Holland.
