I was on Juno last night. I went through about 50 pages of new releases in Electro House. It was mostly bunk. No better than BeefPork.

I'll check out whatpeopleplay.com tonight.

I miss the Record Stores.

First let me say I dig your tracks, fo realz yo.

But I wouldn't blame the artists/site/labels when the genre could be blamed. It's probably the most basic and formulaic of the bunch: House beat, phat saturated bass, season with some voice/vocal snippets and breakdowns, done. With some decent production skills, a sense of groove, and a Moog (hardware or emulation) you could quickly crank a song out that fits all rules and expectations of the genre. Thus no standout tracks.

It's a dance floor filler and I could probably listen to an Electro DJ mix for hours on end and each song is the shit, but it's a relatively stagnant and predictable level of being the shit.

But I whole heartedly disagree. The problem is not the genre. I love funky house, electro house, tribal and even some tech house. This shit they're selling is not groovy or funky or hooky. It's Nasty poorly written wobble-U and Dutch Trance Crap. (my apologies to the Dutchies ). I just have a sound and style that is very hard for me to find ATM. I'll give you my favs:

I just have to dig deeper. That's what makes this shit rewarding. When you find your vibe and it moves you it will, most likely move others.

It's like a half day holiday today so i bunked off into SoHo to check out what's left of the shops.

Went in 3 new new vinyl shops and 2 secondhand. Listened to over 30 records.

Came home with 2. I new and 1 used. Mildy better hit rate than on-line.

Well pleased with my day even though it was raining. Met someone I hadn't seen in 5 years. Got a haircut.

Fair enough if you're saying the same shitty uninspired garbage is coming out of all genres.

I also agree with funky shit about everybody getting their hands on music software for free or cheap when you compare it to the hardware only days. But also to water things down further there used to be a time when a label was also a building with people. Now it's very simple for the artist and the label to be one in the same with little to no cred.

I dont think I can remember a time that I didn't feel like I was sifting through mounds of garbage to find the gems. Difference now is that instead of having to spend entire days at the record shop, I can do it in my underwear at home

a) many different people, many different tastes,
one mans art is the next mans crap
(just check out the soundcloud down there if you do not believe me )


b) it gives us a sense of accomplishment, and the time to savour our findings.
