Traktor Scratch Pro as Master
Ableton Live 8 as Slave
Reason 4.0 as Slave (to Ableton)

No crashes with over 40 tracks in Reason running at the same time.
Effects on master track in Ableton with audio from Traktor (1 stereo) and the 40+ from Reason (midi controlled by Ableton).

About 6 hours was my longest time playing without issues.

Macbook Pro 17"
2.8ghz Core 2 Duo
4gb DDR3
10.6.3

M-Audio Profire 610 firewire I/O: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProFire610.html

No crashes yet. However on my studio machine I do crash from time to time... More than likely due to Logic crashing, then Ableton crashes, Reason and every NI synth I've got running, lol. Logic = the crashmaster!

No crashes here!

Imac, snow leopard, allen&Heath zed429 mixer(usb audio interface) mackie onyx 1220 (firewire audio interface)

Rob Papen Blue and Subboombass
Korg legacy
Audio damage plugins

30+ audio and midi tracks

no problems except the fact that live can't sync to all my external hardware so now I'm only using live for "software only" productions, and to record my stereomixes coming from hardware heaven!

Peace

win 7 32 bit
4gb ram
rme mutliface
...

live 8.1.1+ maxforlive + komplete6 + various vst plugins

really stable, I only get regular crashes when I use ni massive (which is annoying)

(Sorry OP, a bit OT)

TRS80,

I am intrigued to know why you take your wave files out and put them into Acid to do your final mix???

Please elaborate on your reasoning for this.

My reasoning is practical and has nothing to do with "best practices".

I've got a nice bundle of Waves plugs on my PC desktop.

Yet, I run Live on a macbook, and can't use the Waves plugs on it, since they're tied to my PC desktop (which has an audiophile 24/96 card in it running to some Mackie HR824s.)

If I mix down on Live and leave plenty of headroom, I can xfer a hi-quality WAV file to the PC and get my levels right. then dither it on down to CD or mp3. Even tho the audiophile is not a "great" card, it's better than the mini jack out on the macbook. So I can hear better.

I've learned from this process that it's a good idea to mix relative in Live, not trying to achieve overall impact level there. I think even if I had a soundcard on the mac, I'd still do the same technique. Do the music making/mixing in Live, xfer/export it as a hi-quality WAV file (lots of headroom), and do the mastering/slamming in Reaper with some iZotope plugs.

The only reason I use acid is because it host the waves plugs just fine and I'm very comfortable with the program. I just like the layout and design of it.

So that's it.

PS: So I don't use a audio/midi interface and have no problems. Maybe that is why I never crash. But the other thing I do is I only use what plugs and instruments came with Suite, with the exception of Zebra. I'm not a d/ling plug in internet junkie. I have a feeling it may be some of the multitude of plugs avail. might be fuckin' wit the system. idk but in general I find this whole Ableton design is incredibly reliable.

if Live8's been working flawlessly on your system...
I would very much like to know system specs...

I would like to know :
computer
audio/midi interface
vsts/au
average track count
Macbook Pro (4 gigs) version right before they went unibody
Motu Ultralite mk1
too many to list
24 tracks, 5-6 returns.

Crashes on 8: handful, but I've only had Live for a couple weeks, never had crashing on 7 though. With that said, I still think 8 is just as stable as 7 for me.

@blueprint
a handful in a couple of weeks is not so good...
do you know what makes it crash? is it a specific vst ? of what?

well...I've noticed that many of y'all aren't using audio/midi interfaces...
curious...
to early to jump to conclusions though...

So a quick overlook on the topic and it seems show that ppl using only Live's instruments ja Efxs are the majority who have it running stable.

Fair to assume?

I've had no major issues with Live post 8.0.5

This is my typical set up:

Ableton Suite 8.0.9
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Intel Core i7 940 @2.93 Ghz
4GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 260 GPU
PreSonus FireStudio Project audio interface
Native Instruments KOMPLETE 6
Waves Native Power Pack
plus some free VST instruments and effects such as KorePlayer, Stringer, and UniRoomLE
then of course there's the outboard gear, but that's less important in terms of Live's stability
average track-count per project ?
Atleast 8 or 9....usually somewhere between 12-15.

Umm, not at all really. Almost everyone said they use 3rd party effects and synths.

Used to use Acid years ago.
Seems like a bit of work, but with your Waves plugs, I can understand your workflow.

No unexplained crashes ever here, pretty much everything i use is in my sig. Basically my main VST are Kontakt for Sax/Trumpet, Guitar Rig, Ozone and Garritan s/w that came with EWI.

My main issue is running out of RAM, then the system does become unstable, but that is an OS issue really. Big sets become unstable at around 1.6 - 1.8gb of RAM, then it can get quite wierd =)

The PC is a Dell XPS 720, about 4 years old. Quad core jobbie w/ 4gb RAM.
